 Greetings!

Mulberry International now visits three hospitals in Simferopol.  Each hospital has an abandoned baby ward for children without a caregiver.  Often they have been abandoned by their parents, but they may have been removed from the home.

The hospital budget to care for these children is less than fifty cents per day. Mulberry's staff will make sure there is enough formula, food and medicine.  Hussein (pictured above) has even made some minor building repairs.

Occasionally, we are able to intercept these children and find foster parents before the child ever sees the inside of an orphanage. The problem is finding willing parents.  We begin to address that issue on October 27 with the first ever Crimean adoption/foster care conference.  Recruiting parents will become a much higher priority for Mulberry.  I'll have a report from the conference next month.

Thanks for being part of this ministry.  We couldn't do it without you.

Don't grow weary.

Changing Tables

Changing tableThe picture here is a baby changing table.  Amazingly, the hospitals don't have a budget to buy these tables.  They cost $50 to $100 and I have lost count of how many Mulberry has purchased.  We also buy food, clothing, medicine and an occasional refrigerator.

If you've made a donation designated for the abandoned baby ward ministry, you have helped purchased several of these items.  These purchases not only meet a need, they give us credibility and access to minister to these children while they are in the hospital.

Some children stay as much as a year.  The hospital staff will extend the time because they know the conditions these children face when they are released to state institution.

Back in School

first day of school

From all reports, the children and families all survived the hot summer and are doing well in school.  This is one of Mulberry's families on the first day of school.  Everyone dresses up and marches into school on the first day.
