It All Started with the Babylonians

Over four thousand years ago, the ancient Babylonians would make promises to their gods to return borrowed objects and pay off all their debts by the start of the new year. A couple of thousand years later, as the Romans entered their new year, they made all kinds of promises to their god, Janus, for whom January is named.

Jump forward to the 21st century. As we enter the New Year, most of us have made resolutions to better ourselves in some way -- lose weight, quit smoking, get back in shape or get organized.
