Did you know food scraps will be banned from the landfill by 2020, including from residents? That's why Ben Zabriskie, of Zabriskie Agricultural Enterprises is researching the viability of providing residential organics collection in the Barre/Montpelier area. Please take his 2 minute survey to let him know what you think.

VT 1st in nation to have Battery EPR bill
Legislative Update: VT 1st in Nation with Battery Take Back Legislation

Vermont lawmakers passed the nation's first extended producer responsibility law for single use batteries.

The Bill, known as H.695, an "Act Relating to Establishing a Product Stewardship Program for Primary Batteries," passed on May 8, 2014 to address single-use household batteries. It awaits Gov. Shumlin's approval.

Once signed by Gov. Peter Shumlin, the Bill will become the first extended producer responsibility (EPR) law in the US that covers primary batteries of multiple chemistries (e.g., alkaline, zinc carbon, lithium primary silver oxide, and zinc air).

CVSWMD currently collects batteries, of multiple chemistries at our ARCC in Barre and also at our Paint, Battery, and Fluorescent bulb collections
