UAC Welcomes New Program Partner Makom Community

      

UAC would like to welcome new Program Partner Makom Community and Executive Director Beverly Socher-Lerner to the Coalition family. Makom Community provides high-quality and affordable afterschool Jewish education for children in Pre-Kindergarten through second grade. Makom's program consists of project-based learning with an emphasis on family and community.

Support One Day at a Time's 4th Annual Recovery Weekend  

 

This weekend UAC Program Partner One Day at a Time (ODAAT) will host their 4th Annual Recovery Weekend. From June 12 through June 14, ODAAT will host various activities and forums to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and drug abuse in the Philadelphia Community. Some of ODAAT's events include their 21st Annual Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, June 12dedicated in memory of those who have succumbed to the HIV/AIDS virus, and a Stop the Violence and Drugs Community Roundtable discussion on Saturday, June 14

UAC Co-Sponsors Senior Financial Abuse Forum

Join UAC's Community and Economic Development (CED) Department along with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, for a screening of Fleeced: Speaking Out Against Senior Financial Abuse on Monday, June 16th 12pm-3pm at the United Way, 1709 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Fleeced is a new documentary produced by the NCRC which details the story of older adults and families who were victimized by financial scams.   

 

Following the screening there will be a panel discussion with local financial experts on ways to prevent fraud and resources available to the community. Please RSVP at

PAAN Serves As Host Site for My Brother's Keeper Leadership Forum 

On Friday, June 6, UAC Program Partner the Philadelphia Anti-Drug/Anti-Violence Network (PAAN) hosted the My Brother's Keeper Leadership Forum. Mayor Michael Nutter, the My Brother's Keeper's Task Force, and other nonprofit organizations came together to discuss launching the initiative in Philadelphia. My Brother's Keeper is an initiative started by President Barack Obama to help bridge the opportunity gap for young men of color. This initiative will benefit young men of color by ensuring that they have access to basic health, nutrition, and high-quality early education. The My Brother's Keeper Task Force will partner with communities and police to reduce violence and help young men stay in school.
