Funding Opportunities:

 

Foundation for Financial Planning

Support for Financial Education Programs 

 

The mission of the Foundation for Financial Planning is to help people take control of their financial lives by connecting the financial planning community with people in need. The Foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations nationwide for community outreach and pro bono activities that utilize financial planning practitioners in the delivery of services. Support is provided to organizations that provide services to specific target audiences who are underserved by the market, in need fo financial guidance, or in a financial crisis. Priority is given to outreach efforts to military personnel and their families, Financial Life Skills education programs through high schools and/or youth organizations and programs offered through community-based organizations. Programs that can be replicated on a regional or nationwide basis are given special consideration.

 

Concept papers must be submitted by April 30, 2013.

Community Development Corporation (CDC)
 Five New Slots Available for the CDC Tax Credit Program
 

Recent legislation has increased the number of Qualified Organizations, from 35 to 40, which will allow a business to receive a tax credit against their Business Income and Receipts Tax (BIRT) liability. Currently, there are five (5) additional openings for businesses seeking to partner with and contribute $85,000 per year for ten (10) years to a Qualifying Community Development Corporation.

 

The Department is accepting applications starting April 30, 2013 at 9:00am on a "frist come first serve" basis.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo Housing Foundation Homeownership Grant Program

 

The Wells Fargo Housing Foundation Homeownership Grant Program provides financial resources to local nonprofit housing organizations to create sustainable homeownership opportunities for low-to-moderate-income people.

 

Homeownership Grant Program Areas of Interest:

 

*Construction/Rehab

  For the development and pre-development of construction or rehab of owner-  occupied homes.

 

*Buyer Education & Counseling

  For homebuyer education, pre-and-post-purchase counseling

 

*Foreclosure Counseling & Prevention

         For counseling and prevention activities to avoid foreclosure and may include

         modification assistance 

 

*Subsidies

  For down payment and closing cost subsidies, interest rate buy downs, and other 

  subsidies that assist homebuyers/homeowners to purchase or retain

  their homes

 

*Home Repairs

  For essential home repairs, purchases and modificiations (e.g. repair or replacement

  of a furnance or to build a ramp for handicap asscessibility)

North Face Explore Fund

Grants to Engage Kids with the Outdoors

 

The North Face Explore Fund aims to inspire the next generation of young explores and conservationists by supporting nonprofit organizations throughout the country that are working to get youth outdoors to explore their natural world. Grants are provided to organizations that encourage youth outdoor participation, focusing primarily on creating more connections of children to nature, increasing access to both front and backcountry recreation, as well as, providing experiential education for both personal and environmental health.

 

Funded programs should seek a specific audience and reach out to a specific community or place of interest. In 2013, the Fund will award 30 grants of $2,500; ten additonal grants of varying amounts will be awarded based on online voting taking place this summer.

Womens' Opportunity Resource Center (WORC)

Accepting Applications for the Impact Business Plan Competition

 

The Impact Business Plan Competition is meant to benefit women-owned businesses (51% owned and managed by a woman). The awards are made possible by a generous grant from Citi Bank and additional support from Independence Blue Cross. WORC will award $2,500 to the first place business, and $1,000 to the second place business.

 

The winners will also receive free business services that are valued at $1,500, which will help them get to the next level.

Philadelphia Housing Authority

Unit Based Subsidy/Captial Funding Request for Proposals

 

Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) wishes to partner with entities to provide new or preserve existing low-income housing through partnerships. To address each of the foregoing, PHA is seeking to diversity its housing inventory through the participation of property owners and developers in PHA's Local Unit-Based Operarting Subsidy Program.

Fair Housing Organization Initiative Continuing Development Component

 

The Fair Housing Organization Initiative Continuing Development General Component will award grants/cooperative agreements under the Fair Housing Organization Initiative to support fair housing enforcement organizations in building their capacity to enforce or investigate violations under the Fair Housing Act. Approximately $1,200,000 in funding is allocated for awards of up to $325,000.

Presbyterian Mission Agency

Grants Promote Community Organizing for the Disadvantaged

 

The Presbyterian Committee on the Self-Development of People (SDOP) participates in the empowerment of economically poor, oppressed, and disadvantaged people who are seeking to change the structures that perpetuate poverty, oppression and injustice. SDOP currently supports groups in the United States who are oppressed by poverty and social systems, want to take charge of their own lives, are organizing to do something about their own conditions, and have decided that what they are going to do will produce long-term changes in their livews or communities. Supported projects must be presented, owned, and controlled by the groups of people who will directly benefit from them, and must address long-term corrections of the conditions that keep people bound by poverty and oppression. Grants of up to $20,000 are provided.

Support for Music, Education, and Grassroots Organizing
Sparkplug Foundation
 
The Sparkplug Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations that are proposing start-up projects in the fields of music, education, and grassroots organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student," and with learning as a community activity. Through Grassroots Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a reasoned, just society.

The Home Depot Community Impact Grants Program 

 

The Home Depot Community Impact Grants Program provides support to nonprofit organizations, public schools, and public service agencies in the U.S. that are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their communities. Proposals for the following community improvement activities will be considered: repairs, refurbishments, and modifications to low-income and/or transitional veteran's housing or community facilities (schools, community centers, senior centers, etc.); weatherizing or increasing energy efficiency of low-income and/or transitional veteran's housing or community facilities; and planting trees or community gardens and/or landscaping community facilities that serve veterans.

      

Priority is given to projects for veterans that include housing repairs, modifications, and weatherization work. Grants of up to $5,000 are made in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services.

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration

Targeted Capacity Expansion: Substance Abuse Treatment for Racial/Ethnic Minority Women at High Risk for HIV/AIDS (TCE-HIV: Minority Women)

Summary of purpose

 

The purpose of this program is to expand substance abuse treatment and HIV services for African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women (ages 18 years and older), including heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual, previously incarcerated women, and their significant others, who have substance use or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders and are living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. The goals of this program are to: (1) reduce HIV infection and transmission rates among African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women, including reducing alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and injecting drug use (IDU); (2) address the impact of violence and trauma on women's increased risk of substance abuse and HIV infection; (3) increase access to culturally appropriate, women and family centered, trauma-informed substance abuse/co-occurring mental health treatment and HIV/viral hepatitis services, including HIV and hepatitis B and C testing; (4) educate and empower African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women to increase their awareness of safer sex practices (e.g., condom use) and make decisions about their behavioral health, including trauma-related HIV risk-behaviors; and (5) implement evidence-based interventions.

BJA FY 13 Encouraging Innovation: Field-Initiated Programs - Concept Paper

Summary of purpose
    
Under this solicitation, BJA seeks to prevent and reduce crime and enhance the criminal justice system through collaboration with the field to identify, define, and respond to emerging or chronic crime problems and systemic issues. BJA is looking for proposed strategies to address these issues, including trying new approaches, addressing gaps in responses, building or translating research knowledge, or building capacity to address the issues.
  
Applications under this program should not duplicate other BJA-funded programs. Applications are sought in two areas: Category 1: Applications that propose to test a strategy at the state, local or tribal level, documenting implementation and developing tools to support national replication. Category 2: Applications to develop targeted and national or regional strategies that will make an impact in addressing a critical need or gap in the field. Regional projects must show that they are a model that is specific to a regional need or could be implemented effectively regionally and replicated elsewhere. In both categories, the applicants must propose innovative strategies or strategies that are aligned with the BJA Strategic Plan and are consistent with the goals of this solicitation.

BJA FY 13 Smart Probation: Reducing Prison Populations, Saving Money, and Creating Safer Communities

  

Summary of purpose

 

The FY 2013 Smart Probation Program (SPP) seeks to improve probation success rates, which would in turn improve public safety, reduce admissions to prisons and jails, and save taxpayer dollars. Funds can be used to implement evidence-based supervision strategies and to innovate new strategies to improve outcomes for probationers. 

This program is funded under the Second Chance Act appropriation, which authorizes federal grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, housing, family programming, mentoring, victims support, and other services that can help reduce recidivism.

The Assets for Independence Demonstration Program provides support for community-based organizations to offer Individual Development Accounts, financial education, and related services to low-income individuals and families in order for them to accumulate savings and invest in appreciating assets such as a first home, small business, or higher education or training.

 Autism Speaks Family Services Community Grants

 

The goal of Autism Speaks is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. The organization's Family Services Community Grants support programs nationwide that work to build the field of services for individuals with autism and to expand the capacity to effectively serve this growing community.

  

Grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 are provided in the following categories: Education, Recreation/Community Activities, and Young Adult/Adult Services. Priority will be given to agencies and organizations that address the needs of those who have little access to services.

Neighborhood Economic Development Grants

 

The Department of Commerce is requesting proposals from Philadelphia neighborhood-based organizations to fund development costs related to the construction of commercial development and the commercial portions of mixed-use development.

 

Neighborhood Economic Development grants in the amounts of $100,000 to $300,000
will be awarded to provide gap financing in support of neighborhood-based economic development ventures.  The grants  will support neighborhood-based organizations undertaking economic development projects designed to enhance employment opportunities the majority of which will be available to low and moderate income residents of the targeted neighborhood and to create a suitable living environment by increasing the availability of goods and services in the community.

LEEWAY FOUNDATION

 

Applications are now available for the 2013 funding cycles of the Art and Change Grant and Leeway Transformation Award! Leeway Foundation's grantmaking programs honor women and trans artists in the Delaware Valley region for their ability to create social change through their artistic and cultural work.

 

The Arts and Change Grant provides project-based grants upt to $2,500 to women and trans artists to fund art for social change projects. Deadline: August 1, 2013.

  

The Leeway Transformation Award provides unrestricted annual awards of $15,000

to women and trans artists who create art for social change, and have done so for the past five years or more. Stage 1 Deadline: May 15, 2013. 

 

 

Seybert Foundation

 

Grants generally range between $2,000 and $5,000, and are made in the form of General Operating Support to those organizations whose mission align with that of the Foundation.

 

The Seybert Foundation directs its giving primarily to community-based organizations in Philadelphia with an annual operating budget of less than $1.5 million.

Afterschool Matters (ASM) Practitioner Fellowship
Philadelphia Roundtable Showcase
  
Philadelphia is one of several U.S. cities to host the National Afterschool Matters (ASM) Practitioner Fellowship. Out-of-school time (OST) staff and classroom teachers spend a full year attending classes; reading academic papers and research documents; engaging in dialogue; writing exercises; problem-solving; implementing practitioner research projects on their own; and presenting their work at public Roundtables.
 
Philadelphia's ASM Program will host a special Showcase Roundtable. The Roundtable will highlight the ASM research that Fellows completed during (and perhaps continued after) their Fellowship. The Showcase is intended for past Fellows, prospective Fellows, OST and school district staff, administrators, funders, policy-makers, and other stakeholders.

IBM Kidsmart Young Explorer Kiosks
 
UAC has received a donation of 20 Kidsmart Young Explorer Kiosks. The  Young Explorer is a computer housed in brightly colored, child-friendly furniture and is equipped with award-winning educational software to help children learn and explore concepts in math, science and language. They are suitable for children between the ages of 3-7.
 
We would like to extend this opportunity to program partners who can use the Kiosks to enhance their programs by providing a fun and educational activity for young children.
