Hardy Williams Education Fund
The Hardy Williams Education Fund will award scholarships to the most talented graduating high school senior, undergraduate students and graduate students in Philadelphia interested in a career in government, law or social action. We invite you to share the enclosed application with your students.
All completed applications must be submitted to the address on the attached application on or before April 30, 2013.

Support for Music, Education, and Grassroots Organizing
Sparkplug Foundation
The Sparkplug Foundation primarily supports nonprofit organizations that are proposing start-up projects in the fields of music, education, and grassroots organizing. In the Music category, the Foundation supports emerging professional musicians or music-development programs. In Education and Teaching, the Foundation funds projects that deal with "the whole student," and with learning as a community activity. Through Grassroots Organizing, the Foundation encourages activist strategies for addressing institutional injustices and for building a reasoned, just society.
Letters of intent are due April 15, 2013, and the deadline for final applications is May 15, 2013.

Dunkin' Donuts
Offers College Scholarships in Philadelphia Region
Dunkin' Donuts franchisees is committed to a strong local community. An important part of building the community, is helping students gain a quality education. As part of a Community Partnership program, Dunkin' Donuts franchisess' will award $1,000 scholarships to qualified high school seniors.
Scholarship recipients will be selected from eligible high school seniors who demonstrate a "well-rounded" character, postivie academic record, demonstrated leadership, commitment to school and community activities, and experience in a work environment.

Do Something Awards Program
Do Something is a national nonprofit organization that inspires young people to believe that change is possible, and trains, funds, and mobilizes them to be leaders who measurably strengthen their communities. The Do Something Award identifies exceptional young social entrepreneurs, activists, and community leaders who have a significant social impact. Five semi-finalists will receive a minimum of $10,000 in community grants and scholarships. Of those five winners, one will be selected to win the Grand Prize, and will receive a total of $100,000 in community grants.
Applicants must be 25 or younger and be a U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Grants to Enhance School Libraries Serving Disadvantaged Youth
The Snapdragon Book Foundation seeks to foster children's literacy by providing grants to school libraries throughout the United States serving disadvantaged youth. In a time when many schools are reallocating their funds to technology and audiovisual equipment, the Foundation hopes to make sure that school libraries are still offering children good books to read. In the past few years, grants have ranged from $800 to $20,000. K-12 private, public, and charter schools are eligible to apply.
The application deadline is April 15, 2013.

The Home Depot Community Impact Grants Program
The Home Depot Community Impact Grants Program provides support to nonprofit organizations, public schools, and public service agencies in the U.S. that are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their communities. Proposals for the following community improvement activities will be considered: repairs, refurbishments, and modifications to low-income and/or transitional veteran's housing or community facilities (schools, community centers, senior centers, etc.); weatherizing or increasing energy efficiency of low-income and/or transitional veteran's housing or community facilities; and planting trees or community gardens and/or landscaping community facilities that serve veterans.
Priority is given to projects for veterans that include housing repairs, modifications, and weatherization work. Grants of up to $5,000 are made in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of tools, materials, or services.

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration
Targeted Capacity Expansion: Substance Abuse Treatment for Racial/Ethnic Minority Women at High Risk for HIV/AIDS (TCE-HIV: Minority Women)

Summary of purpose
The purpose of this program is to expand substance abuse treatment and HIV services for African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women (ages 18 years and older), including heterosexual, lesbian, bisexual, previously incarcerated women, and their significant others, who have substance use or co-occurring substance use and mental disorders and are living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. The goals of this program are to: (1) reduce HIV infection and transmission rates among African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women, including reducing alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and injecting drug use (IDU); (2) address the impact of violence and trauma on women's increased risk of substance abuse and HIV infection; (3) increase access to culturally appropriate, women and family centered, trauma-informed substance abuse/co-occurring mental health treatment and HIV/viral hepatitis services, including HIV and hepatitis B and C testing; (4) educate and empower African American, Hispanic/Latina and other racial/ethnic minority women to increase their awareness of safer sex practices (e.g., condom use) and make decisions about their behavioral health, including trauma-related HIV risk-behaviors; and (5) implement evidence-based interventions.

Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)
BJA FY 13 Encouraging Innovation: Field-Initiated Programs - Concept Paper

Summary of purpose
Under this solicitation, BJA seeks to prevent and reduce crime and enhance the criminal justice system through collaboration with the field to identify, define, and respond to emerging or chronic crime problems and systemic issues. BJA is looking for proposed strategies to address these issues, including trying new approaches, addressing gaps in responses, building or translating research knowledge, or building capacity to address the issues.
Applications under this program should not duplicate other BJA-funded programs. Applications are sought in two areas: Category 1: Applications that propose to test a strategy at the state, local or tribal level, documenting implementation and developing tools to support national replication. Category 2: Applications to develop targeted and national or regional strategies that will make an impact in addressing a critical need or gap in the field. Regional projects must show that they are a model that is specific to a regional need or could be implemented effectively regionally and replicated elsewhere. In both categories, the applicants must propose innovative strategies or strategies that are aligned with the BJA Strategic Plan and are consistent with the goals of this solicitation.

BJA FY 13 Smart Probation: Reducing Prison Populations, Saving Money, and Creating Safer Communities
Summary of purpose
The FY 2013 Smart Probation Program (SPP) seeks to improve probation success rates, which would in turn improve public safety, reduce admissions to prisons and jails, and save taxpayer dollars. Funds can be used to implement evidence-based supervision strategies and to innovate new strategies to improve outcomes for probationers.
This program is funded under the Second Chance Act appropriation, which authorizes federal grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide employment assistance, substance abuse treatment, housing, family programming, mentoring, victims support, and other services that can help reduce recidivism.

Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's
Pennsylvania FY2015 New Freedom Funding Round
The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) is now accepting applications from eligible Pennsylvania agencies and organizations for Fiscal Year 2015 New Freedom (Section 5317) Grant Program.
The New Freedom program seeks to reduce barriers to transportation services and expand the transportation mobility options available to persons with disabilities beyond the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. This program applies to existing and proposed services within Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

The Assets for Independence Demonstration Program provides support for community-based organizations to offer Individual Development Accounts, financial education, and related services to low-income individuals and families in order for them to accumulate savings and invest in appreciating assets such as a first home, small business, or higher education or training.

Autism Speaks Family Services Community Grants
The goal of Autism Speaks is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. The organization's Family Services Community Grants support programs nationwide that work to build the field of services for individuals with autism and to expand the capacity to effectively serve this growing community.
Grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 are provided in the following categories: Education, Recreation/Community Activities, and Young Adult/Adult Services. Priority will be given to agencies and organizations that address the needs of those who have little access to services.
Final proposals must be submitted by April 22, 2013.

Neighborhood Economic Development Grants
The Department of Commerce is requesting proposals from Philadelphia neighborhood-based organizations to fund development costs related to the construction of commercial development and the commercial portions of mixed-use development.
Neighborhood Economic Development grants in the amounts of $100,000 to $300,000
will be awarded to provide gap financing in support of neighborhood-based economic development ventures. The grants will support neighborhood-based organizations undertaking economic development projects designed to enhance employment opportunities the majority of which will be available to low and moderate income residents of the targeted neighborhood and to create a suitable living environment by increasing the availability of goods and services in the community.

Offender Reentry Program
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
This is a highly nationally competitive grant, and will require investment in developing stakeholder partnerships.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2013 for the Offender Reentry Program grants.
Applicants who respond to the RFP must be prepared to work directly with the local Philadelphia community-based substance abuse prevention coalitions, need to have working knowledge and experience with public health and community-based intervention. As well as, a working knowledge of the addiction services system in Philadelphia County as it relates to community-based coalitions, and familiar with the system transformation that
has taken place in Philadelphia over the past seven (7) years and the Practice Guidelines particularly the Core Values.

LEEWAY FOUNDATION
Applications are now available for the 2013 funding cycles of the Art and Change Grant and Leeway Transformation Award! Leeway Foundation's grantmaking programs honor women and trans artists in the Delaware Valley region for their ability to create social change through their artistic and cultural work.
The Arts and Change Grant provides project-based grants upt to $2,500 to women and trans artists to fund art for social change projects. Deadline: August 1, 2013.
The Leeway Transformation Award provides unrestricted annual awards of $15,000
to women and trans artists who create art for social change, and have done so for the past five years or more. Stage 1 Deadline: May 15, 2013.
Seybert Foundation
Grants generally range between $2,000 and $5,000, and are made in the form of General Operating Support to those organizations whose mission align with that of the Foundation.
The Seybert Foundation directs its giving primarily to community-based organizations in Philadelphia with an annual operating budget of less than $1.5 million.

Spring Clean Up with MLK365
Join UAC Program Partner MLK365, Mission 365 and the Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House for an outdoor clean up of the neighborhood surround 41st Street and Baltimore Avenue. An indoor clean up will also be hosted inside the Veterans Comfort House. Projects will include a clean up of the basement area to clear space for more bedrooms, organizing the food pantry and sorting donations.
The Philadelphia Veterans Comfort House provides services for veterans while they undergo treatment for serious health issues at the local Va hospital and also is a shelter for homeless veterans in their time of need. Through meals, comfortable beds and a helping hand, the PVCH gives a little back to the men and women who have given so much for our country.

Make sure you visit one of the Campaign's 11 tax preparation sites to get your refund today. Hurry, the last day of the tax season is only four (4) days away!
This is a FREE service for families and individuals with incomes below $57,000 and low cost for families above $57,000. The Campaign has 728 IRS-certified volunteers who have already provided more than 20,677 hours service to the Philadelphia community. The Campaign has also partnered with KEYSPOTS locations throughout the city to provide high-speed internet access, and to assist with using the Campaign's free tax website. New this year, Teenshop will partner with Fairy Godmothers Inc. of PA to have a Celebrity Prom Shoes Salon with donated shoes from celebrities to help girls be stars on Prom Night!

Aftershool Matters (ASM) Practitioner Fellowship
Philadelphia Roundtable Showcase
Philadelphia is one of several U.S. cities to host the National Afterschool Matters (ASM) Practitioner Fellowship. Out-of-school time (OST) staff and classroom teachers spend a full year attending classes; reading academic papers and research documents; engaging in dialogue; writing exercises; problem-solving; implementing practitioner research projects on their own; and presenting their work at public Roundtables.
Philadelphia's ASM Program will host a special Showcase Roundtable. The Roundtable will highlight the ASM research that Fellows completed during (and perhaps continued after) their Fellowship. The Showcase is intended for past Fellows, prospective Fellows, OST and school district staff, administrators, funders, policy-makers, and other stakeholders.

UAC has received a donation of 20 Kidsmart Young Explorer Kiosks. The Young Explorer is a computer housed in brightly colored, child-friendly furniture and is equipped with award-winning educational software to help children learn and explore concepts in math, science and language. They are suitable for children between the ages of 3-7.
We would like to extend this opportunity to program partners who can use the Kiosks to enhance their programs by providing a fun and educational activity for young children.
