Coastal Carolina Adaptive Sports and Recreation is a 501-C3 non profit organization based out of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina who is dedicated to providing adaptive sport and recreational opportunities for persons living with disabilities and their families.

Our programs exist to increase the mental and physical well being of persons living with disabilties in our community and to provide awareness of adaptive sport and recreational opportunities and how they can benefit the lives of persons living with disabilties.

Prosthetic supports improve rescue horse's mobility 

Lori Woodham, CEO of SEAL Animal Cares and Rescue, interacts with Lucky, a three-year-old Tennessee Walking horse Monday. Lucky was fitted with prosthetic braces Monday to improve her mobility.

COTTONWOOD, AL -- The first three years of Lucky's life were anything but fortunate. The Tennessee Walking horse was born at an area horse breeder's facility with severely-bowed tendons at the fetlock, a condition causing pain and difficulty in walking.

 

Lucky's condition could have been helped if she had received surgery at an early age, but Lucky didn't have those kind of owners. Instead, she was kept in a stall for three years until she was rescued in the summer of 2012 by local law enforcement responding to reports of deplorable conditions...READ MORE

Researchers Explore Vibrations in Sense of Touch

Scientists at the University of Chicago are studying how the frequency of vibrations plays a role in our sense of touch.

"We're trying to build a theory of what makes things feel the way they feel," said Dr. Sliman Bensmaia, lead author of a new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience. One application for this work may be to simulate the sense of touch in artificial limbs by stimulating nerves at the appropriate timing and frequency.
