Tired of the Highway 37 Traffic?
Here's something you can do!

Another Day on Hwy 37.

There are few situations that leave us feeling more helpless than miles-long traffic backups. Unfortunately, our area features a world class choke point: Highway 37. The backups there are legendary.
At BOLT Staffing we are painfully aware of the price our employees pay to work in Marin, Sonoma and Napa Counties.  The situation is particularly acute in Marin County. There are many open jobs in Marin. Part of the reason is the limited number of available employees in the county. On the other hand, the East Bay is full of willing workers who would relish the premium salaries offered in Marin. However, to earn the premium they must pay with commutes that begin with 2 hours and increase depending on conditions. Spending 2 or 3 hours in traffic to get to an 8 hour job is a ridiculous price for families to pay. Not only is the time that would otherwise be devoted to family and children lost in traffic, the nerves frazzled in hours of commuting impose an unfair burden on children who can't understand why mom or dad is so grumpy.

Fortunately, there is a proposed solution on the table.

A private group, United Bridge Partners (UBP), is proposing a solution that replaces the existing, inadequate road with a new flyover roadway. Their proposal is 100 percent privately financed and UBP will assume ownership of the new road from CalTrans.
To finance the project, the new road would become a toll road and tolls would be in line with those charged on area bridges.

On May 5, 2016 UBP will be presenting their proposal to the Highway 37 Task Force. The Task Force is made up of city and county officials from Solano, Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties. The Task Force is charged with finding a solution to the ongoing mess on 37.

If you've had enough of wasting your life on Hwy 37, here's what you can do:
UBP has invited letters of support from the public no later than May 2nd. We've included a model letter for you to copy on our blog along with (e)mailing instructions and a copy of UBP's background memo on the project.
If you'd rather write your own note, a simple two sentences saying where you live and that your life would improve if you didn't have to waste 2 hours a day to travel 20 miles on Hwy 37.
Please copy the letter, or write one of your own, and email or mail it as instructed.
Whichever you choose, be sure they have it no later than Monday, May 2, 2016.
This is one situation you can take an active role in fixing. Do it now!

Rising Tide or Tsunami,
Be Ready for a $15 minimum wage!
March 31, Governor Brown signed legislation raising the minimum wage from the current $10 per hour to $15 by 2022. January 1 the minimum wage goes to $10.50 per hour followed by dollar increases each year until the $15 mark is reached in2022.
While arguments swirl about this being the rising tide that lifts all boats or a surge that threatens to swallow jobs at the low end of the scale, the fact remains that employers need to confront the reality of increasing labor costs across the board.
When wages rise at the bottom end of the scale, every level above rises too.
Naturally this impacts budgeting, but far more important going forward is the question of retention. The pool of available workers is shrinking and now is the time for employers to start developing strategies to keep their ever more precious resource of human talent.
As we move into the future, partnering with BOLT makes more sense than ever. Building a relationship with us now not only gives you access to our expertise in the current local labor market and its trends, but we can also predict and fulfill our clients' staffing needs, often before they anticipate them.
Best of all, our personal relationships with our clients give us the insight and understanding that leads to a successful fit between each employer and employee.
