As summer approaches we naturally begin to think about all the good times ahead. Parties, picnics and graduations promise to fill our calendars. All that is to the good, but...
It's important to remember every Sunday night has a Monday morning to follow. It's all too easy to stay at the Sunday party just another hour. What can it hurt, right? Nothing at all as long as you get up and get to work Monday morning.
When we place you in a job, your performance affects many people. Obviously if you call in sick you put our client, the person who offered you the job, in a bind. Equally obvious, you took the job because you needed to work, so you are letting yourself down. You also hurt BOLT Staffing, and not just the company. Our motto is "Good People Fast." Good people don't call in sick on Mondays especially soon after starting a job.
There are also the people at BOLT who worked to win the job order and who worked to find you and match you with the company. Everything has worked perfectly to get you the job offer. Perfectly that is, until you decide to sleep in Monday morning. Things are bad enough when we have to find a last minute replacement for you. They can get worse. You might cause us to lose a client.
So, remember that the best way to keep a job is to get 8 hours sleep every night before work. Very likely that means getting home by 9 PM each Sunday. Lots of people are counting you. Don't let them or yourself down.

Job Fair Preparation
Job fairs are a great opportunity for employers to meet potential employees. The name "Job Fair" has a pleasing, informal ring to it, and true enough they tend to be more relaxed and less structured than the traditional interview. However, beware! Although the name might bring up visions of ferris wheels and cotton candy, you are going for a serious purpose: you want to get hired. Too often people show up looking like they're ready for a roller coaster ride, not a serious job interview. If you're planning on attending a job fair, remember:
- First impressions count, they will either open doors for you, or get you filtered out.
- Dress appropriately for the position you are seeking.
- At the very minimum wear a clean shirt or blouse with a collar.
- If you have tattoos, cover them as much as possible.
- Gnarly nose rings and other jewelry that might put an employer off are better left home.
Being sure you present a clean, well-groomed appearance is the best way to get past the first gate in the hiring process.

Employment in the Region Improves
We are happy to report the gloomy unemployment numbers of previous years seem to be improving across the region. In March the unemployment rate in the counties we service dropped to levels we haven't seen for a while. Marin reported 5.2%, Napa 6.7%, Sonoma 7.3% and Solano 8.9%. That means good things for all of us and welcome news looking forward.
