We have noticed more employers in the area moving their schedules to 4 day weeks of 10 hour workdays.
Commonly referred to as "four tens", it means the hourly paid employee works a ten hour shift and gets 40 hours in four days instead of five. California law requires certain employees be paid overtime after eight hours except in the case of a modified schedule such as a "four ten". In a four ten schedule, overtime is not paid for the extra two hours per day.
There are many advantages to working a four ten schedule especially for the commuter. It is an opportunity to cut 20 percent off your gas bill and wear and tear on your car. For the person who can manage a longer workday, this is an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of three days off each week.
