In the past eight months I have written 450 pages outlining the argument of every book in the Old Testament. That's enough to fill a book! I just printed it out and handed it in to be graded. Almost put my back out carrying it across campus! This was a stressful and time-consuming exercise, and at times I wanted to give up. But the knowledge I now have as a result of this process is invaluable.
This week we had the Memorial Service for one of my heroes, Dwight Pentecost, "Dr. P." These Bible Arguments were his idea. He wanted DTS PhD students to be ready to teach from any book in the Bible as soon as they graduated. Now, I am not able to teach without notes like Dr. P could. But these arguments have given me a greater knowledge, and appreciation, for the message of each book, and greater confidence in teaching them.
What is my reward for finishing the Old Testament Arguments? Next week I get to start on my New Testament Argument papers! But my struggles through the last eight months have helped me develop a system for reading, understanding, researching, and summarizing each book. The result (I hope) is that the New Testament Arguments will not take as long.

Progress on my Article
I did get a rejection from one of the Journals interested in publishing my article about Sodom. So, that made the decision easy to go with the other Journal. Plus they gave me some useful tips to improve the article for publication. Today I sent in my latest (last?) edits for the publication of my article. We shall see if there are any further edits the publisher wants me to make. It will get published ... just, don't hold your breath! |
