My Argument with Arguments
Last semester was my most discouraging semester so far in my PhD. I felt like my feet were in concrete--I just could not seem to make progress. I was supposed to finish the Argument papers for all 39 books in the Old Testament ... and I finished 10! I had to request a course extension. The light at the end of the tunnel was getting smaller not bigger.
But early this semester I met with one of my professors and he explained that I was putting way too much work into my Argument papers. He told me how to write them, what to include and what to leave out. Since then I have completed 12 books, and I just have the Prophets to go (and some of those are pretty small). Then I get to tackle the New Testament books, probably this summer. Hopefully by then I'll be even more in the swing of knocking these papers out.
The end result will be worth the effort. I have a much stronger grasp on the overall message of each book, and what the author is saying. But it is not easy getting there. You know what they say, "Nothing worth doing is worth doing tomorrow" ... wait ... "If its worth doing well, then its worth doing ... um." No, that's not it either ... OK ... "Nothing worth doing in life is ever easy."

Article Still Not Published
Thanks for praying for the publication of my article about the city of Sodom. It is not published yet, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I now have two theological journals interested in publishing it, so we are negotiating which one would be the best forum. One of these journals is well known; the other is a new kid on the block. So, keep praying that the article will be published where it will get the most readers. I will keep you updated as it progresses along. |
