IT'S BACK! Fall has (technically) begun and that means it's time to parade out the Autumn beers. Pumpkinhead Ale has long been a B3 favorite. Located on the historic waterfront in Portland, Maine, Shipyard Brewing Company produces 17 varieties of award-winning English style and seasonal beers and has grown to become the 19th largest craft brewery and 28th largest brewery in the U.S.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale is a crisp and refreshing wheat ale with delightful aromatics and subtle spiced flavor. This beer was first brewed in August of 2002 at Federal Jack's Restaurant and Brew Pub in Kennebunk, Maine where Shipyard began. Awards include a 2008 European Beer Star Silver Medal and 1st Place at the 2007 California Brewers Festival. Cheers to Autumn, good friends!

Wine: Vuelta a Espana

The Tour of Spain, also known as the Vuelta a Espana, runs for three weeks in a changing route across Spain. The inaugural event (1935) saw 50 entrants face a 3,411 km (2,119 mi.) course over only 14 stages, averaging over 240km (149 mi.) per stage. It was inspired by the success of the Tours in France and Italy, and the boost they brought to the circulations of their sponsoring newspapers (L'Auto and La Gazzetta dello Sport respectively). Juan Pujol of the Daily Informaciones instigated the race to increase his circulation.  This month we bring your three Spanish wines to celebrate this beautiful country.

Not sure which one try, take your own "Tour of Spain" and try a 2oz sample of all three for $10.

  vuelta 2013

Tapena Verdejo, Spain - Verdejo (ver-DAY-ho) is the Spanish answer to Sauvignon Blanc with a hint more floral aromas. Verdejo is known to come from several regions across Spain ranging from Rueda to Tierra de Castilla. This pale yellow-hued wine has a vibrant nose with an array of aromas of tropical fruits over a backdrop of ripe peaches. The palate is full of bright stone fruit that is beautifully balanced with a crisp, refreshing acidity and a lingering finish with a hint of minerality.

Campo Viejo Tempranillo Rioja, SpainA cherry red color, suggestive of a vibrant Tempranillo wine. On the nose, its rich aromas have a pronounced intensity with an initial scent of ripe red fruit followed by gentle sweet notes of vanilla and spices. On the palate it is perfumed, soft and fresh with a long finish that leaves memories of red fruit, vanilla and cocoa.

vuelta bull

Ramon Bilbao Crianza, SpainBright, deep red. Intense aromas of ripe black berries to the nose accompanied with balsamic touches, which are reminiscent of coconut and liquorice. Fresh and pleasant in the mouth with a noticeable texture where the smokey and fruit assembled nuances reappear, this wine boasts a long and enfolding finish. Made with 100% Tempranillo.

  hopps

What's an IPA, you ask? B3's here to school ya! ("Cue the film projector!")...First brewed for British troops stationed in India during the 1700s, India Pale Ales (IPA) were beers crafted with a higher alcohol content and significantly more hops (which is a natural preservative) to ensure their drinkability after traveling such great distances with no refrigeration. Flash forward to modern times, the American IPA is a different soul from the original English IPA style. More flavorful than its English counterpart, the color of American IPAs range from very pale golden to reddish amber. Hops are typically American with a big herbal and/or citric character. Bitterness is high as well, moderate to medium bodied with a balancing malt backbone. Come try sample of our finest IPAs (FREE)!
