April Beers:
Turtle Power!
Terrapin Beer Company was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Looking around at what other breweries in the Southeast were doing, Spike and John felt they could make a contribution. Realizing that anyone could make just another pale ale, brown ale or stout, Spike and John set their sights on crafting beers unlike any that were currently available in the area.
History rolls forward and so, too, has Terrapin. These days John and Spike are enjoying Terrapin's new 40,000 square foot brewing facilities and taking advantage of the space to brew new innovative and exciting beers for which they have garnered several awards both in the U.S.A and internationally.
This month, we're feeling the turtle love and think you will be, too. So stop on by the café to enjoy an assortment of beer styles from Terrapin Brewery.
Terrapin Beer Company Hop Karma (Brown IPA), Georgia -
"Peace, Love and Hoppiness" - Terrapin Hop Karma Brown IPA is a head-on collision between a hoppy west coast IPA and a complex malty brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds. 6% ABV
Terrapin Beer Company Hopsecutioner IPA, Georgia - You love hops, you ask for hops and this killer IPA delivers! Hopsecutioner earns its name by using six different types of hops giving it a fresh citrus and pine hop nose with a beautifully bitter finish. A strong malt back bone keeps this aggressive IPA well balanced. This IPA is made for hop lovers and you may lose your hop head over this one! 7.3% ABV.
Terrapin Beer Company Hopzilla (Double IPA), Georgia - Terrapin newest member of the Monster Beer Tour is none other than the fearless "Hopzilla" Double IPA. This Hoptastic creature clocks in at 110 IBUs and has all the hop explosion of a B-rated monster movie. Made with 100% Maris Otter malt to back up the barrage of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma, this beast knows no boundaries. 10.7% ABV. |

Wine: Pours from Down Under
Did you know that Australia is now the fourth largest wine exporter in the world? Exporting nearly half of the wine it produces - over 400 million liters, Australian wines have developed a reputation for quality - especially in certain wine grape varieties. Part of the "New World" of wine producers, Australian viticulturalists have a reputation for being able to blend traditional wine-making processes with innovation in bottling, grape breeding and growing technologies including vine canopies.
Though there are over 50 wine-growing regions in Australia, most of Australia's vines are concentrated in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, with over 60% of Australian wine grapes being red.
New Zealand wine has a similar success story, now considered another of the premier "New World" wine-growing nations. Its temperate maritime climate and diverse growing regions have allowed a great range of grape varieties to thrive. New Zealand has found success with many of the same grapes for which Australia has become known, such as: Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Merlot blends. New Zealand's 10 wine-growing regions span the length of the entire country: from the warm, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards of Northland (on the Northern tip of the North Island), to the delicate Pinot Noirs from Central Otago, down the bottom of the South Island.
This month, we're bringing a little Down Under front and center, pouring a selection of spectacular wines that you're sure to find "too right".
Thorn Clarke, Milton Park, Shiraz, Australia - Deep red color. The wine is rich smelling with dark fruits, plums and spice with some oak undertones. There are very rich fruit characteristics on the palate with plums, blackberry and sweet spice originating from the oak.
Earth First, Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina - 100% Organic Malbec -Brilliant deep violet color emitting aromas of ripe red fruits perfumed with vanilla. A classic Malbec profile progresses with ripe plums and dark fruits over the palate. Soft round tannins and a medium body make a second glass nearly obligatory.
Henri Bourgeois, Fusional Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand - When French know-how meets New Zealand terroir, a fusion of harmony is revealed. Both subtle and intense in the mouth, this wine expresses a pleasant freshness, allied to delicate notes of ripe fruit such as apricot or pineapple. |
