November Beers: Fake It 'Til Ya Make It Beers
Sweet! November is here. There time of year when Floridians get to pretend it's cold out. Wooly scarves + Flip-Flops! = We love it. So, let's put those light, crisp beers away and bust out the "cold weather" brews that are heavy on the malt and easy on the hop. From dark stouts to the spicy ales, we've got beers so wintery you'll wish it were snowing outside.
Mendocino Seasonal Oatmeal Stout - Jet-black in color and full-bodied with a rich, creamy, long-lasting head. Robust, with luscious chocolate and coffee flavors, it is balanced with just the right amount of UK Golding hops. Brewed with massive quantities of oats, our Oatmeal Stout is smooth in the extreme. It pairs well with a wide range of hearty, full-flavored foods and delicious desserts. This Oatmeal Stout is 6.0% alcohol by volume and 100% marvelous!
Oskar Blues Old Chub - This jaw-dropping Scottish strong ale (8% ABV) is brewed with bodacious amounts of malted barley and specialty grains, and a dash of beechwood-smoked malt. Old Chub features semi-sweet flavors of cocoa and coffee, and a kiss of smoke. A head-turning treat for malt heads and folks who think they don't dig dark beer.
Anderson Valley Winter Solstice - The holidays are a special time in Anderson Valley. The days are darker, weather colder, and foods richer. And Anderson Valley's Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale is perfect for this time of year. Deep amber in color, with an inviting aroma of spice and nutmeg. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale evokes a crackling fire, drifting snow, and smells of home. A hint of spice and hop bite to balance out the creamy and smooth mouth-feel, and medium sweetness. |

Wine: Autumn Variety
This month, we're mixing it up with a little bit of this (from Spain) and a little bit of that (from California). We thought you might enjoy a little variety.
Tera y Castro is a family-run boutique winery based in Rueda, the heartland of great Spanish wines. The planted area of the vineyards is approximately 20 hectares, and both the slightly undulated topography of the terrain and the continental climate, with its varied temperatures, help vine growing in order to obtain balanced wines with ideal levels of sugar and acidity. The stony landscape naturally insulates and protects the roots of the vine and is the ideal habitat for the best-selected varieties of the indigenous verdejo grape, present in the area since the year 1000.
Tera Y Castro Pentio Verdejo, Spain - Appealing pale, green-yellow in color, Pentio is powerful on the nose, with aromas of ripe fruit, boxwood and an herbaceous base, with a slight aniseed flavor. It is fruity, cheerful and well-balanced.
Also featured this month two new reds from California:
Bliss School House Red, Mendocino, CA - This wine combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Merlot as in previous blends but adds Syrah for more depth and complexity. It has a nose of dark berries, followed by a rich mouth feel bursting with fruit; the finish is long with good structure.
Tin barn R8 Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, CA - This wine offers cedar on the nose followed by lush berry on the palate. The fruit for this wine is sourced from the Central California Coast. The polished yet vibrant tannins provide for a full-bodied structure. |
B Creative: Artist Jim Lakey
This season's B Creative Artist (back by incredible popular demand) is Jim Lakey, whom we featured last year and he blew us all away with his amazing metal and recycled art. About Jim: After buying his first welding torch in 1995, this self-taught metal artist started experimenting with metal he had around his house. Once that ran out, he decided to start using metal that was being discarded. Discovering that recycled material could be used to make cool art work, The Art of Recycling was born. His pieces are funky and fun and Jim hopes you will enjoy them as much as he loved making them. |

B Nice: Fern Creek Elementary Food Bank (Canned Food Drive)
Did you know that 95% of the kids at neighboring Ferncreek Elementary are on free or reduced lunch, and that a staggering 20% percent are homeless? Not acceptable, friends! Thankfully, every Friday, the school provides food to any child who might not otherwise have enough food to eat on the weekend. The school also has a "boutique" that clothes five families each week. All month long we'll be accepting donations of non-perishable food items to support the Ferncreek Elementary families in need. Check them out on Facebook. |
