Over 20 years ago, Kathy was in our house with her mother, sister and some of the cousins. Tommy, age 2, disappeared for a moment - his mom found him underwater in our backyard pool, got him out, started CPR. The pool fence was down and the guys working on it were out getting parts. Tommy recovered. Our layers of security broke down.

 

Research indicates that 98% of drownings occur due to a breach in the security around a pool. SECURE YOUR POOL. Check your latches. NEVER prop gates open. Doors or windows leading to an unfenced pool MUST have childproof latches. No fence? Get an automatic pool cover.

 

Learn CPR and first aid. Always keep a phone by the pool. Never leave the pool area when children are swimming. Keep rescue equipment near the pool.
