Thousands to Defend Life at Pineville/Alexandria Event

ALEXANDRIA, La. - Thousands of concerned citizens, religious leaders and elected officials will gather in Pineville and Alexandria Saturday for the inaugural Louisiana Life March Central.

The event, themed "Life is Priceless," will beginning at 9:45 a.m. at Louisiana College. The 1.6-mile march will go down Main Street toward the Jackson Street Bridge, cross the bridge and conclude at the amphitheatre on the Alexandria side of the Red River. There, speakers and musicians will lead attendees in prayer for life.

"We are looking forward to gathering pro-life citizens of Louisiana to stand for the priceless value of human life," said Ryan Verret, associate director of Louisiana Right to Life. "Now more than ever, especially after videos show Planned Parenthood selling the body parts of aborted babies, we need to send a clear message that the commodification of human life is unacceptable in America."

Sponsors of the event include Louisiana Right to Life, Louisiana College, Louisiana Baptist Convention, Catholic Diocese of Alexandria, United Pentecostal Church of Louisiana, Louisiana Family Forum, the Knights of Columbus, and Concerned Women for America.

Speakers for Saturday's rally include Dr. Rick Brewer, president of Louisiana College; Dr. David Hankins, executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention; the Rev. Brian Gunter, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pollock; Congressman John Fleming; Congressman Ralph Abraham; Octavia Jackson, president of Lily of the Valley Ministries; Jayshell Richard, who will share a personal testimony; and Pastor Randy Harper, United Pentecostal Church of Louisiana.

Last Saturday, more than 5,000 people marched for life at events in Baton Rouge and Shreveport.
