In case you have not seen it, the 10th video from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) was released today, focusing on the possibly illegal compensation that Planned Parenthood receives for its "tissue donation" program.  Please watch the video and share!  You can join a live webcast tonight
with 40 Days for Life and David Daleiden of CMP to learn more on what you can do.

Last week, our Legislative Director Deanna Wallace was featured on a number of media outlets surrounding our protests at Planned Parenthood locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.  Check out this great WGNO story where Deanna shares her adoption testimony!

* With the fiscal year quickly coming to an end, the government spending fight will ramp up as the House of Representatives continues its response to the controversial Planned Parenthood videos which were released this summer. As early as Thursday, the House is expected to vote on H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015. This legislation, championed by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), would prohibit federal funding to Planned Parenthood for one year, unless Planned Parenthood certifies that it will not perform or provide funds to an entity that performs an abortion during that year.

* Office Depot has formally apologized to a woman who sought to have photocopies made of a pro-life prayer she was to distribute to her parish for a prayer campaign that seeks the conversion of Planned Parenthood. In an apology statement to Maria Goldstein, reported by the Chicago Tribune, Office Depot chairman and CEO Roland Smith said, "We sincerely apologize to Ms. Goldstein for her experience and our initial reaction was not at all related to her religious beliefs. We invite her to return to Office Depot if she still wishes to print the flier."

* A Miss America contestant at Sunday night's pageant is drawing criticism for defending taxpayer funding of the nation's largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. The contestant also claimed the abortion company offers mammograms for women, which is not true.

* Monday, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders (I-VT) addressed Liberty University, a Christian college located in Virginia, and promoted abortion. He said, "I believe in women's rights ... Those are my views, and it's no secret." However, he added that it is important for people to engage in civil discourage even when they disagree because there could be areas they could "find common ground."

Election 2015: Where Does Your  Candidates Stand on Life Issues?

The 2015 Louisiana election season is here. Nine people have qualified to run for governor and four have filed paperwork to run for lieutenant governor. Many more are hoping to get your vote in other state races, including those for State House and Senate seats.

Do you know where the candidates stand on life issues?

It is crucial that we have a governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state legislators that are committed to the pro-life cause.  To elect pro-life representatives, we need to do the work over the next month to ensure voters know where our candidates stand.

Louisiana Right to Life has sent questionnaires to candidates for governor and lieutenant governor as well as State House and Senate.  We are receiving questionnaire responses from them as we speak!  We are posting them online as we receive them, along with the voting records of incumbents.  You can  view candidate comparisons for all these seats at www.ProLifeLouisiana.org/2015Elections.

Since qualifying just ended last week, many candidates have yet to complete our questionnaire.  If you know candidates running for these seats, please ask them to quickly complete the questionnaire and return to us.  If you meet or speak to a candidate, ask them how they answered the 2015 Louisiana Right to Life Questionnaire.

Remember, voting will occur on Saturday October 24th and Saturday November 21st!

WHAT DOES YOUR VEHICLE SAY ABOUT YOU?

Choose Life License Plate Program Helps Women Mulling Adoption
Program Has Raised More than $340,000

Have you seen a Choose Life license plate on the road? Do you have one on your vehicle? If not, please consider making the switch. For each Choose Life license plate issued by the state of Louisiana, $25 goes to agencies working with mothers considering adoption for their unborn child.

The Louisiana Choose Life License Plate program, managed by Louisiana Right to Life, has distributed more than $340,000 to pro-life pregnancy centers, adoption agencies and other family organizations since its inception in 1999, despite a very bumpy start.

Before the license plate even went into production, the New York Center for Reproductive Law and Policy filed a lawsuit to stop distribution of the plate. In late 2002, after that attempt failed, the plates finally went on sale. But just months later, in mid-2003, a federal judge stopped the sale of all specialty plates in Louisiana.

Finally, in 2006, the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles began selling all specialty plates again, including the Choose Life plate. And thanks to sale of those plates since then, grants have been awarded regularly since 2008.

That year 10 agencies split $20,000. In 2015, 27 qualifying agencies received grants totaling $40,500.

This year's recipients are:
  • A Pregnancy Center and Clinic, Lafayette
  • Access Pregnancy and Referral Centers, Metairie
  • Ark-La-Tex Crisis Pregnancy Center, Shreveport
  • Beacon House Adoption Services, Baton Rouge
  • Caring to Love Ministries, Baton Rouge
  • Catholic Charities, Diocese of Baton Rouge
  • Community Center for Life, Gretna
  • Crisis Pregnancy Help Center of Slidell
  • Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center, Thibodaux
  • Danielle Inn, Covington
  • DesOrmeaux Foundation, Lafayette
  • Family Life Federation, Baton Rouge
  • Family Resource Clinic, Livingston
  • Gideon Christian Fellowship International, New Orleans
  • Heart of Hope - A Sanctuary for Women, Keithville
  • Iberia Pregnancy Resource Center and Clinic, New Iberia
  • Life Choices of North Central Louisiana, Ruston
  • Lily of the Valley Ministries, Alexandria
  • Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Monroe
  • New Life Crisis Pregnancy Center, Leesville
  • Pregnancy Aid Center, Minden
  • Pregnancy Care Center/Living Alternatives, New Orleans
  • Restoration Pregnancy Resource Center, Hammond
  • St. Elizabeth Foundation, Baton Rouge
  • Volunteers of America North La./Central La., Alexandria
  • Woman's New Life Center, Metairie
  • Women's Resource Center, Natchitoches
According to the state statute, 50 percent of the money organizations receive must be used to provide for the material needs of expectant mothers considering adoption, such as clothing, housing, medical care, food, utilities and transportation. The remaining money can be used for counseling, training and providing pregnancy testing.

Here is a sampling of how the agencies have spent 2014 grant money:

Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center, Thibodaux
"Recently, one client came to us as a walk-in after spending the day submitting job applications. She was actively fleeing an abusive relationship while coming to terms with a positive pregnancy confirmation. She picked up a brochure on adoption with tears in her eyes. She stayed at our center for the remainder of that day, where we scheduled an appointment to meet with a representative from an adoption agency, provided lunch, secured a hotel to accommodate her for the weekend (donated by a local church), and purchased a more comfortable pair of shoes than the flip flops she was wearing, causing blisters on her feet. We have since assisted her in getting water turned on at the place she will call home and purchasing food to fill her refrigerator. She is still intent on creating an adoption plan and is due in December."

Community Center for Life, Gretna
"In 2014/15 we were able to assist two of our clients who were considering adoption because of the help received from the Choose Life fund. This funding was used to help pay one month's rent for one of our clients. The other client was able to receive help with maternity clothing. We also provided payment for her Entergy bill as well as allowed her to utilize our emergency shelter during her time of need."

Access Pregnancy and Referral Centers, Metairie
"A recent client began coming to ACCESS early in her pregnancy for a pregnancy test and ultrasound. We completed a Medicaid application for her and helped her find a doctor by offering physician referrals. We continued providing case management services, and upon her sixth month of pregnancy she indicated she was considering adoption. She already had a 1-year-old and didn't think she could afford another child. She began receiving counseling services and was provided with material support in the form of maternity clothing and diapers for her 1-year-old. She ultimately chose a family to adopt her little girl and still has ongoing contact with them. She still receives counseling services and diapers through ACCESS. She says of the adoption: 'It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I know it was the right decision when I see how great she is doing and how happy she is.'"
