This week, Louisiana Right To Life is saying goodbye to

three of our dedicated staff members.

Sarah Zagorski, our Communications Director, is moving to Colorado to become the  Director of Colorado Citizens for Life.

Our Youth Programs Director, Cody Reed, is going to teach high school in Covington.

Kacie Hoerner, our Development Director who has been with us faithfully since 2009, is leaving to teach kindergarten.  She will remain with Louisiana Right to Life in a limited capacity.

We are so grateful to Kacie, Sarah, and Cody for all they have given to Louisiana Right To Life and the pro-life movement in our state. They will be sorely missed!

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has invalidated a Mississippi law that is similar to Louisiana's HB 388 requiring abortion physicians to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.

On July 29, a three-judge panel ruled 2-1 in favor of the Jackson Women's Health Organization, saying the law "imposes an undue burden on a woman's right to choose an abortion in Mississippi, and is therefore unconstitutional."

After a review of the decision, Louisiana Right to Life Executive Director Benjamin Clapper said, "It is unfortunate that a court would decide that a sub-standard health facility should remain open simply because it is the last of its kind.  The 5th Circuit ignored the wishes of the people of Mississippi.  We are confident that this decision will not impact the implementation of Louisiana HB 388 on Sept. 1."

Gov. Bobby Jindal with Joshua Leadership Institute students yesterday after the students visited the Governor's Mansion

Students equipped to become pro-life leaders at Joshua Leadership Institute

By Sandy Cunningham

Communications Director

"The Joshua Leadership Institute has helped me realize that I can be part of the generation that brings an end to abortion.  I can't wait to put into practice what I learned here."

This was the testimony of a public high school student from Covington, one of the 40 high school students and 15 college chaperones from around the state who were in Baton Rouge this week participating Louisiana Right to Life's Joshua Leadership Institute (JLI).  JLI is a week-long camp designed to equip today's youth with the necessary tools and knowledge to become pro-life leaders in their schools, communities and beyond.

Along with many others, this student left prepared to be more active in advancing the culture of life.

Bobby Schindler, brother of the late Terri Schiavo, speaks to students.

The week consisted of

intensive sessions on abortion, stem cell research and euthanasia. Students then put into action what they learned through interactive "field

trips." On Sunday evening they participated in a

candlelight vigil at the Delta Abortion Clinic, and on Tuesday students visited the LSU campus to talk with college students and adults about abortion.

"This has been the best camp yet when it comes to outreach," said Kandace Landreneau, Youth Programs Director for Louisiana Right to Life. "We taught the kids how to articulate the pro-life message to people who disagree with us, and then we took them to the LSU campus to survey students. Our students had life-changing experiences as they were able to enter into civil and productive conversations with people who were pro-choice."

Mock Committee
Students on TV at Mock Committee

On Thursday, students visited the state Capitol to hear from Rep. Barry Ivey and participate in a mock legislative committee meeting where each student presented their one-minute "Why I Am Pro-Life" testimony.Students then toured the Governor's Mansion and met Gov. Bobby Jindal. He encouraged them to be joyful bearers of the pro-life message and to never be discouraged when success might not seem evident.

During the week students heard from several nationally-recognized speakers, including Joanna Wagner and Catherine Wurts from the organization Justice for All and Bobby Schindler of the Life and Hope Network, founded after the death by dehydration and starvation of his sister, Terri Schindler Schiavo.

"We are so thankful to these students for giving up precious time during their summer to commit to the pro-life cause. We cannot wait to see the impact these students have across Louisiana," Louisiana Right to Life Executive Director Benjamin Clapper said.

Monroe Proudly Pro-Life Breakfast
to Honor 100% Pro-Life Legislators

Louisiana Right to Life, Life Choices of Monroe and area churches will gather for the first-ever Monroe Proudly Pro-Life Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Vantage ONB Tower in downtown Monroe. The event begins at 9 a.m.

Northeast Louisiana legislators with a 100 percent Pro-Life voting record during the 2014 legislative session will be honored. Reps. Katrina Jackson and Frank Hoffman, who together took a bold stand for life and authored the two most important pieces of pro-life legislation in 2014, will receive special recognition.

Attendees will also join together to pray for a pro-life future for the nation. The group will unite across denominational lines to pray for an end to abortion, for the women hurt by abortion and for the conversion of all of those involved in abortion. A diverse group of pastors will lead the prayer, including Lisa Robertson, wife of Duck Commander's Alan Robertson.

All are welcome and admission is free, but you must
RSVP online. If a church would like to host a table, email or
call Pam Gras (318.300.3533 or [email protected]).
