Louisiana Named Most Pro-life State in the U.S.

Louisiana Right to Life Leads the Way to Third Straight #1 Ranking

New Orleans, LA: Today, Americans United for Life (AUL) announced that Louisiana ranks as the most pro-life state in the nation. AUL's "Life List" ranks all 50 states based on each state's body of law associated with the life issues, ranging from abortion to euthanasia.

Louisiana has held this ranking for three consecutive years.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to

Life, stated, "We are honored that Louisiana is leading the way to a pro-life future by enacting legislation to protect both mother and child from abortion."

Louisiana Right to Life, together with a strong group of allies, led the effort to pass three pieces of pro-life legislation in 2013. The first, H.B. 278 defines "forced abortion of a minor" as child abuse and allows the State of Louisiana to intervene when a minor child is being forced against their will to have an abortion. This is a response to recent cases in Louisiana of parents attempting to force their child to have an abortion against her will.

The second pro-life piece of legislation, S.B. 90, strengthened protection for pregnant women in Louisiana by banning web-cam abortions and requiring all abortionists be board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Additionally, Louisiana Right to Life spearheaded efforts to urge various state departments to investigate possibly fraudulent state contracts with Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.

"While we are thankful for the great honor of being ranked as the most pro-life state in the U.S. for a third year, we must be mindful that everyday in Louisiana, 22 unborn babies are denied the joys of Louisiana because of abortion. We must continue our efforts to defend life until all life is protected under law," Clapper finished.
