Dating checks during the holidays
The next two weeks are holiday weeks ending on Friday. How do you plan to date your payroll checks - Thursday or Friday?

Some things to consider:
  • If you date your checks on Friday, December 25th and January 1st, employees may not receive funds until the following Monday. However, using Friday will give you 52 pay periods in 2015 and 52 pay periods in 2016.
  • If you date your checks on the previous Thursday, December 24th and December 31st, then all of the wages will be included in 2015, giving you 53 pay periods in 2015 and only 51 pay periods in 2016.
  • All deductions will be affected by your decision.
  • Review your Health Plan - some health plans may be dependent on the number of pay periods there are in a given year.
Search the Aviont Knowledge Base or create a Support Center ticket if you need assistance with any of the listed tasks.
Minimum Wage Increase
Is your state on the list?
Colorado's constitution requires the state's minimum wage to be adjusted for inflation on an annual basis. Accordingly, effective January 1, 2016, the state's minimum wage will increase from $8.23 per hour to $8.31 per hour. In addition to Colorado, minimum wage rates in the following states will be increasing with the new year:
  • Alaska: $9.75 per hour
  • Arkansas: $8.00 per hour
  • California: $10.00 per hour
  • Connecticut: $9.60 per hour
  • Hawaii: $8.50 per hour
  • Massachusetts: $10.00 per hour
  • Michigan: $8.50 per hour
  • Nebraska: $9.00 per hour
  • New York: $9.00 (eff. 12/31/2015)
  • Rhode Island: $9.60 per hour
  • South Dakota: $8.55 per hour
