Dating checks during the holidays
The next two weeks are holiday weeks ending on Friday. How do you plan to date your payroll checks - Thursday or Friday?
Some things to consider: - If you date your checks on Friday, December 25th and January 1st, employees may not receive funds until the following Monday. However, using Friday will give you 52 pay periods in 2015 and 52 pay periods in 2016.
- If you date your checks on the previous Thursday, December 24th and December 31st, then all of the wages will be included in 2015, giving you 53 pay periods in 2015 and only 51 pay periods in 2016.
- All deductions will be affected by your decision.
- Review your Health Plan - some health plans may be dependent on the number of pay periods there are in a given year.
