2015 J-Term at Wartburg Seminary

J-Term is an innovative academic session between the fall and spring semesters that provides students with a unique opportunity for immersion and learning outside of the traditional classroom. This academic year, students will be traveling to these locations and participating in these J-Term experiences: Guyana, Namibia, Germany, North Dakota rural immersion, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (South Dakota), Holden Village (Washington), Milwaukee urban immersion, on-campus course on Domestic Violence, and on-campus course on Christian Mission in Global Perspective.

First year student, Sarah Stansfield, said about her experience at the North Dakota Youth Correctional Center, as part of the North Dakota J-Term: "I am learning so much out here, the kids are just kids and you can't help but care about them. They've had rough lives and they need people like Renee and Shera (Pastor Renee Splichal Larson (WTS '10) and Diaconal Minister Shera Nesheim (WTS '10)). It's an amazing ministry!"

Final year student, Jennifer Dahle, shared the following about her time in Germany so far this January, "We have experienced a visceral connection with our reformation history here in Wittenberg, and Eisleben, Leipzig, and Torgau. It is a privilege to walk in the footsteps of people like Melanchthon, Bugenhagen, Luther, Bonhoeffer, Franke and Loehe. I look forward to what is still in store for us! Blessings from the Germany crew!"

Dear Wartburg Seminary community,

Your WTS Presidential Search Committee is currently receiving, from throughout the Church, an excellent array of nominations along with prescient perspectives which we are receiving with deep appreciation. We trust that wide-ranging participation and a prayerful listening process will not only inform but inspire us in the selection of a president called to lead us to a preferred future: missional effectiveness based on core values, e.g., "Life Together" and Die Sendlinge-"The Sent Ones", and exploration of strategic partnerships in service to the Lord of the Church. Meanwhile, thanks for the loyal and generous support from you-the world-wide Wartburg community-our beloved seminary is poised to complete a sixth consecutive fiscal year with a positive cash flow and an increasingly positive spirit!

As the deadline for nominations approaches, we invite your nominations, seek your prayers, and solicit information you may deem helpful in the selection process. Visit www.wartburgseminary.edu/presidentsearch for more information or to make a nomination.

As the second half of the academic year begins, please consider making a gift (if you haven't already) or sign up for monthly giving which is an easy way to give automatically and make a significant impact throughout the year. Thank you for your partnership in Engaging God's Future!

Do you know a young person with passion to lead?

If so, nominate him/her for the Wartburg Youth Leadership School & ELCA Youth Gathering that will be held July 11-21! Nominations open on February 1.

Wartburg Seminary is looking for youth that are leaders or show leadership potential to join together for an ultimate faith journey. They will share in adventure, service, study, music and worship at the Wartburg Youth Leadership School and ELCA Youth Gathering.

Ben Nelson, past participant, says, "WYLS was such a special experience for me. The people you encounter that week will become family for life, and the connection you make with God is amazing. I felt that I definitely grew as a leader, and am still so grateful that I was able to be a part of WYLS. It looks great on college applications too!"
