                  | | Wartburg Seminary President Announces Retirement
Wartburg Theological Seminary President Stanley N. Olson has announced his intent to retire at the end of this academic year.  Olson has served as Wartburg Seminary's 13th President since January 2011.  Under his leadership Wartburg has been strengthened both financially and academically and is prepared to continue to excel in the formation of valued leaders.
"It is a wonderful privilege to serve as president of Wartburg Theological Seminary. It has been a particular joy to be a partner with the Wartburg community as this seminary has moved from crisis to strength, ready to face new challenges and opportunities, confidently engaging God's future.  I'm convinced that this is the right time for me to retire, and I'm convinced that it's a great time for Wartburg to call a new president. It will, of course, be difficult to leave this wonderful community, the challenging and inspiring work, and the fine people I've gotten to know here and across the country, but Wartburg is healthy and well poised to move forward with a new leader," said President Olson. | Mission Possible
On Tuesday, October 21, Wartburg Theological Seminary, in partnership with Nazareth Lutheran Church and the Northeastern Iowa Synod, held a special service to dedicate the newly renovated homes the Naz Builders and other volunteers worked on over the summer and early fall. The volunteers added insulation; replaced the original windows, exterior doors, siding, and soffits on ten student housing units, built in 1968, to improve their energy efficiency. Along with a presentation following the dedication, each volunteer was presented a Wartburg Seminary t-shirt as a small token of appreciation. Look for your Life Together magazine in the mail soon as it will feature a full story on the Naz Builders.

 | President's Dinner and Re-formation and Renewal
On the evening of Sunday, October 19, nearly 150 WTS donors and alumni attended the President's Donor Recognition and Alumni Reunion Dinner. The dinner was a chance to honor both Wartburg's generous donors who are members of the Wartburg Seminary Society and Tower Community, as well as celebrate the class reunions of alumni who were back for Wartburg's alumni reunion event, Re-formation and Renewal.  The reunion celebration continued on October 20 and 21, and alumni were provided the opportunity to participate in continuing education. The WTS Class of 1964 celebrated its 50th reunion; the Class of 1974 its 40th reunion; and the Class of 1989 its 25th reunion.  |

 | Scholarship Luncheon
Wartburg Seminary held its 12th annual Scholarship Luncheon on Friday, October 3. WTS is grateful for the opportunity to provide scholarships to benefit 100% of eligible students. The event honored donors that have set up endowed scholarships with Wartburg Seminary and gave the donors the opportunity to have lunch with a student who is the recipient of their scholarship. One of the students who attended the Scholarship Luncheon this October and met the donors of her scholarship, was Henrike Acksteiner, a Wartburg student from Germany. She was a recipient of the Paul & Olga Cornelius Lutz International Scholarship Fund and had the chance to have lunch with Charles and Hertha Lutz, two of the donors who make the scholarship possible. With much gratitude about her scholarship, Henrike said, "The only way for me to be able to study here at WTS is through support from scholarships! I could never have afforded to study abroad without those benefits! They provide an insight into a world I only could dream of...it is a great opportunity to get a new point of view, to be part of a different way of life, to learn from each other - internationally, interculturally and intergenerationally. I am so thankful to be supported in my career! Thanks to all the donors and supporters!"
