WTS Announces New Curriculum
Wartburg Seminary will implement a revised curriculum beginning with the Fall 2013 semester. The change comes as a response to the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) change in credit-hour standards for theological education degree programs. Dr. Craig Nessan, Academic Dean said, "Our previous curriculum has worked very well and we have received tremendous assessment about the effectiveness of our curriculum in relationship to our mission. Wartburg Seminary is trying to refine the curriculum that has served us well but also seek to navigate the changes in the theological education landscape in North America." Rally Orange!
Twenty-five rostered leader candidates from Wartburg Seminary participated in the February 2013 ELCA Assignment Consultation. The candidates were assigned to Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. This group represents future leadership on three of the four ELCA rosters: associates in ministry, diaconal ministers, and ordained pastors. Students, faculty, and staff wore orange on February 20th to show solidarity with those students awaiting their regional assignments that day.
The Wartburg campus "rallied orange" again on March 13 for Middlers receiving their internship assignments for next year.
Wartburg Seminary's interns for 2013-2014 will be serving in 6 of the ELCA's 9 regions and in 16 of the ELCA's 65 synods; one WTS intern received an Horizon International Internship and will be serving in Montevideo, Uruguay. Of the 24 internship supervisors, 10 are WTS alums!!

Do You Know Someone Who is Considering a Call To Ministry?
The recent spring "Conference on Ministry" was a chance for those discerning a call to ministry to explore their call while connecting with others in the discernment process, visiting with students, faculty and staff, and experiencing Wartburg's campus life. One individual who attended the Conference on Ministry shared this message with the Wartburg community, "Thank you everyone who helped make the Considering Your Call weekend so wonderful. Wartburg reminds me of the Cheers song, 'Everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came'...I want to be a Wartburger in the future."
If you know of anyone on the discernment journey, please invite them to
be in touch with the Department for Vocation at Wartburg Seminary, schedule a campus visit, or to join Wartburg's next conference on November 9-11, 2013.

April 18, 2013 Dr. Craig Satterlee Preaching and Stewardship Putting the "M" word back into stewardship, this seminar celebrates giving money in response to an explicit proclamation of the Gospel as worship, participation in God's own mission of reconciliation and resurrection, and active resistance to the powers of death at work in the world. Practical in nature, leaders will be encouraged and equipped to preach both the annual stewardship sermon and on the topic of money as it is found in Scripture. Participants may wish to use money as a case study and substitute another stewardship topic-volunteerism, for example-if that better addresses the needs of their ministry context. Learn more

Renewing Worship in the Missional Congregation
Renewing Worship in the Missional Congregation is a course offered at Wartburg Seminary that aims to critically survey the landscape of Christian worship in North America today and to develop principles and practices that will assist congregations to be vital, faithful, and missional worshiping communities. The course is taught by Dr. Thomas Schattauer and Dr. Nathan Frambach and includes a weekend of field work as participants observe at the worship of several congregations.
Students taking the course this spring spent much of a recent weekend worshiping with four diverse congregations in the greater Twin Cities area. Dr. Schattauer said of the weekend, "Our aim in visiting these four congregations in Minneapolis (Wooddale Church, St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Mount Olive Lutheran Church, and Solomon's Porch) is to explore something of the variety that's out there in worshiping congregations. We are asking about the connection between each community's understanding of mission and their worship life and the relation of worship to the contemporary cultural environment. And ultimately--where is God in all of this? The experience certainly stimulates our conversation in class about the character of worship in contemporary congregations."
