MAD MAX TRILOGY BLU-RAY SET Am I overdramatizing Max's spiritual arc in a film series that is all about brash villains, loud cars, and huge explosions? Perhaps. But like I said before, huge action does not a great film make.

NOW IN THEATERS
Man of Steel
FIRST TAKE  Man of Steel is a good start. To a trilogy. If this is where it ends, I'll be deeply dissatisfied. But given the scope of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins started, and where it ended up, Man of Steel seems set to launch Cavill and company into an orbit that could outshine them all.

Maybe we'll get less CGI next time, with more of Clark's Earth relationships, because surprisingly, that's really what this movie does best. Read more...

SECOND THOUGHTS (SPOILERS)  The story of a boy-turned-man trying to understand his fathers, one Kryptonian and one human, pulled my mind to the life of Jesus as the son of a carpenter. Did Jesus ever ask Joseph if he could just be himself? If Joseph would still be his "real" dad?
Did Joseph ever warn Jesus that others weren't "ready" for what he had to say or do, and that they might not like it if he told them? Read more...

THE PIPELINE
In the Works for Film & Faith
THOU SHALT LAUGH  In a world of crashing economies, 24 hour work days, and constant stress, our lives can seem like a continuous string of one difficult decision or moment after the next. One could argue that it's become increasingly difficult - and increasingly vital - to find hope and relief in humor: in short, to laugh at ourselves.

GOD'S DREAM FOR YOU  "Readers from all backgrounds can identify with how difficult it is to change," says Barnett. "But not everyone understands the special struggles for those trying to break free from addiction, abuse, and habitually bad choices. These people know that willpower alone won't work." INDIE FOCUS
Pandora's Promise
pandora's promise OPEN MINDS The film's most important lesson? Sometimes we must get past the "orthodox" to search for the truth. Being anti-nuke has been an article of faith for the environmentalist community for many years. For these people to come out in favor of nuclear power raised eyebrows - and charges that they had sold out or been duped by the industry. But they very clearly state the case in favor of nuclear energy. And they may well carry more weight than those who have been advocating for years, because these are all people who have undergone a conversion.  Read more...

FEATURED INTERVIEW
Man of Steel
LIVE WITH PRODUCER DEBORAH SNYDER  "I don't know that we've ever seen him as emotionally vulnerable. Yes, he is super strong, but he also has these feelings. He can be wounded. He can be hurt. I think that is what makes him more relatable than we've seen him in the past."  Read more...

NEW ON HOME VIDEO
Atlantis, A Good Day to Die Hard, Emperor's New Groove, Lego Batman, Lilo & Stitch, Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles
MAJOR CRIMES  But the real magic here is the impact of the teen prostitute, Rusty Beck (Graham Patrick Martin), on Raydor and her team. It's Raydor's "adoption" of Beck, recognizing that he hasn't received an even playing field from life, and the way that she's softened by mothering him, that make the show matter.  Read more...
