LONG RANGE PREVIEWS
Man of Steel
WHY SUPERMAN ISN'T JESUS: AND WHY HE'S STILL RELEVANT For 75 years, Superman has been a symbol, an icon. He has thrilled fans not only with his amazing exploits, but with his enduring goodness and his unshakable belief in truth, justice, and . . . well, you know the rest.  Read more...

WHY HUMANITY ISN'T THE ONLY GROUP TO NEED SUPERMAN   I'm speaking, of course, of the Justice League.

Although Superman is primarily a salvific force for the human race, he also remains a key figure in DC's alliance of superheroes. (In fact, Warner Bros. has gone on record to say that the fate of the long-awaited Justice League film hinges on the success of Man of Steel.)  Read more...

THE PIPELINE
In the Works for Film & Faith
Jacob Sahms, Sports Editor HOLY GHOST  Filmmaker Darren Wilson hopes to "capture the power, mystery, and character of the Holy Spirit through God encounters in all corners of the world."

He is off to a promising start. The Kickstarter campaign for his latest project has raised a record $357,655 in 45 days, making it the 11th most funded film in the history of Kickstarter, and the # 1 Christian film.

In Holy Ghost, Wilson's goal is "to further stir the faith of millions, as well as poke at some places that maybe need some poking. This subject [the Holy Spirit] is highly contested and debated among Christians, and this film will by no means try to be the end-all-be-all of that discussion. I just hope it stirs things up enough to get people aware not only of what they believe, but also why they believe it." Read more...

ETERNITY  Is there a place for Christian comic books? Randy Alcorn wants to find out.

His prose book Heaven is one of the best resources I've ever seen for examining what life might look like after death. It's not a "been there, seen that" kind of book, but rather an exploration of Scripture that shines elements on how life should imitate heaven, and how heaven may actually be a better version of the many of the things we hold dear. Now, he's teaming with Art Aryris to tackle "The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus" in a new graphic novel, Eternity. Read more...

INDIE FOCUS
Stories We Tell
SEARCHING FOR TRUTH  Can we celebrate the myths of our lives (by which I mean stories of meaning regardless of historicity) for how they define us without having to defend or prove their accuracy? Does truth require validation other than our lives? And what of the stories that we share with others? How do we communicate truth that others may not yet have lived?

It is not easy to answer any of these questions. It can even be difficult to ask them. But Stories We Tell brings them all to our minds in a powerful way.   Read more...

Wish You Were Here
SECRETS DESTROY  One of the notes I made to myself as I watched was, "What will bring wholeness?"
Alas, there is no wholeness and very little healing to be found in the film.  Read more...

NEW ON HOME VIDEO
Escape from Planet Earth, Falling Skies, Jack Taylor, Vexed
FALLING SKIES  This is darker, more Predator-like evil, egged on by the alien technology. It's less hokey, more realistic, and more frightening. And I like it - I give this one 9 out of 10 (weighted for summertime competition) stars!  Read more...
