OLD SCHOOL SPACE First off, a disclaimer: I'm a Star Wars guy, not a Trekkie, but I've seen all of the original Star Trek movies several times, and I have a lot of respect for the . . . even-numbered ones. But I thought J.J. Abrams' first "remake" of the Trek franchise was phenomenal. Bring back the cast from that first outing, throw in Benedict Cumberbatch as a villain, and I'm down. Read more...

EPIC SCI-FI FUN Making Star Trek cool again was no easy feat four years ago, when J.J. Abrams took on that challenge. Now once again, he surprises and delights. Star Trek into Darkness is a worthy sequel and arguably, an even better movie. Yes, it's a bit heavier on the action, but it has plenty of heart and it's a whole lot of fun. Read more...

Now, H770 Films and writer/director Matt Dunnerstick deliver another interpretation, in the story of a Los Angeles Latina named Mary and the machinations of a little storefront church to make Jesus appear again. MUNDANE PASSION The chemistry and magnetism that drew these two together in the first two films is still there, but it is buried by day-to-day life as a couple. The struggles of Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) are very like our own. We may walk out of the theater thinking about our own mature love, and how it relates to the love we shared in earlier stages of relationships. Read more...

MUSTER OF ROHAN REPORT JRR Tolkien wrote about more than Middle-earth. His interests were actually very broad, and much of what he wrote remains unpublished to this day. A few of his devoted fans knew he had written an epic poem (unfinished) about King Arthur, but only a handful of scholars had been able to read it . . . until today. Read more...

PERCEPTION This show is ironic and amusing, scary and intense, intelligent and clever. There's something to be said for a show formed around a guy who might be as crazy as the people he investigates, but who operates on the side of the angels. Read more...
