A Good Day to Die Hard A Good Day to Die Hard

Not McClane's Best Day

Yo

Did we really need another Die Hard movie? No, not really, and A Good Day to Die Hard simply reinforces that point. However, it's always fun seeing John McClane getting in over his head and the mayhem and destruction that seem to follow him everywhere.

Do You Mind Bait-and-Switch?

Pastor Dice

Bits and pieces of this are truly funny... but this is not really a comedy. It feels more like a family drama. Now... is that such a bad thing? Granted, it won't have you laughing the way you expect, but you might find some worthwhile themes here.

Caesar Must Die Caesar Must Die

Betrayal and Loyalty

Darrel Manson

My favorite scene from the production is when Caesar is eulogized by Marc Antony. It takes place in a prison courtyard with prisoners all around at barred windows becoming more boisterous as Marc Antony turns the crowd against Brutus and the other conspirators. I wouldn't have wanted to be the actor playing Brutus going back inside.

Christians in Tinsel Town
Does Hollywood Really Hate Us?

One of the common complaints from Christians trying to get work in Hollywood is that the industry just won't tolerate people of faith. The notion was popularized in 2004 thanks to a widely-repeated article by Don Feder titled "Why Hollywood Hates Christianity." Since that time, however, the tenor of the times--and conversations about the subject, Big Hollywood notwithstanding--have changed.

Just about a year ago, Phil Cooke wrote an article for Charisma titled "The 10 Biggest Myths About Hollywood." Number one on Cooke's list? Hollywood hates Christians. The issue is not apparently animus but a lack of information. Says Cooke:

The fact is, Hollywood-and most of the mainstream media-is ignorant of all things "Christian." Most of the media leaders in this country are simply not people of any faith background, so while it may appear they dislike issues of faith, the truth is they just don't get it. In fact, the majority of people I've encountered at high levels of influence in the industry are very interested when we discuss spiritual issues and have no problem at all with my faith.

When Christians are rebuffed by Hollywood, in fact, it might not be solely their faith that comes into play.

It might be their particular combination of talents and skills (or lack thereof). It might be, more purely, politics. It might even be just a clash of personalities.

If the sole issue were, as is often claimed, a person's professing faith, there ought not be but a few exceptions to the rule. And minor ones at that.

But it's not hard to find copious examples of Christians who have not only succeeded in Hollywood, but been sought out and rewarded by the industry.

Bonehead Men in L.A.

Now on Home Video. To date, Alessi and Barsky's oeuvre has been shorts; but clearly, they've not only been learning the ropes as they've worked their way up to their first feature-length production, they've also been having fun and building up a solid core of professionals with whom to work.
