Bound... To Like It!

Pastor Dice

How do you direct a film about the greatest film director ever? Well, this film isn't about filmmaking, really. Fortunately. And I'm not really able to approach this in an unbiased manner. So unless it really tanked... I'd be bound to love it. And I did!

Old Friends... Again

Darrel Manson

I keep expecting Michael Apted's 7 Up series to become a bit repetitious (well, it does at times) but the challenges that come as we move from age to age always bring something new to the lives of these people who enter our own lives every seven years.

The Bible The Bible (TV)

Quite An Offering

J. Alan Sharrer

As you are probably aware, The Bible, a five-part miniseries, is scheduled to air on the History Channel starting March 3rd.

Below is a photo of a powerful moment that takes place in the book of Genesis: Abraham (Gary Oliver) is about to sacrifice Isaac (Hugo Rossi), his only son.

Darrel Manson A Good But Not Great Year

Darrel Manson

Well, I don't feel the need to double my list this year like I did last year, but there were plenty of films that are well above average.

It wasn't a chore to find enough for my Dozen, though I can't say there was a large surplus that I wish I could have included.  The films I do include, however, are sterling.

I suppose my grade for the year would have to be a good, solid B.

I should point out that I make no claim that these are the best films of the year, but rather the films I am most comfortable recommending and commending.

So here they are, the films you may not even know you've been waiting to see...

Little Red Wagon Little Red Wagon

Steve Norton

"I could come in person."

To be honest, that was the last thing that I expected to hear from young philanthropist, Zach Bonner. After all, the request was supposed to be something small, an opportunity for him to speak to a few of our youth over the Internet.

Maybe I should back up a little bit though.

Last month, my responsibilities at Hollywood Jesus offered me the opportunity to interview Zach Bonner, the young man whose life serves as the subject of the film, Little Red Wagon....

Ben-Hur
Like What MGM Did With The Hobbit?

Third time is the charm, I suppose.

MGM, which released both the 1925 and 1959 versions of Ben-Hur, has apparently announced tentative plans to produce yet a third adaptation of Lew Wallace's astonishingly popular 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.

According to Deadline: Hollywood, MGM is purchasing a speculative script made available by Keith Clarke with Sean Daniel and Joni Levin attached to produce, and Clarke and Jason Brown serving as executive producers.  (Read: Clarke wrote the script, hoping to sell it, and plans to provide primary financing for the project with the help of Brown... and probably also wrote the press release which he fed to Deadline, which in turn dutifully reported the story so MGM could gauge response from the target market without actually having to shell out any cash... a move, which if successful, could help Clarke actually sell the script to MGM.)

And who will the target audience be for this reboot? Well, Deadline elaborates...

Branded Home Video Roundup

Branded, Driving Miss Daisy,
Grand Hotel, Lightning Bug,
Men of a Certain Age, Mrs. Miniver, Superboy, Taken 2, Won't Back Down

HJ Staff

Now on Home Video. Branded is significantly flawed, not the least because its own branding as a movie fails to reveal what it is actually about. Like its message, we're dealing with a bit of false advertising, and it ultimately ends up with too little to show for its creativity.
