     This is 40
 Maurice Broaddus
This is an anti-romance movie, deconstructing the "happily ever after" of many romance movies. It's a keenly observed portrait of real life and the drift that comes with relationships, as people forget how to talk to one another. It's uncomfortable, ribald, and hilarious all at the same time.

     Les Miserables
Becoming an Honest Man Mark Sommer
It is not often that you see a movie that is a work of art. Les Mis is visually stunning with an epic feel from the opening scene. After Anne Hathaway sang, "I Dreamed a Dream" the audience at my screening erupted into spontaneous applause. There were several other moments of applause throughout the film, as if the audience had to find a way to release their emotion.

 Stay Tuned for More
Fili and Kili share their experience at a Line Party for a midnight opening showing of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Interview with fans, trivia questions, and more. Click through to view the video.

Even as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journeyopened in Australia with record-breaking receipts, critics of the movie have generally become more harsh, especially those who know Tolkien's world well. Frankly, I am hard put to muster up any criticism of those critics.

From TheOneRing.net, here's the Christmas Special of "Happy Hobbit," where Kili shows us how to make a cozy fire. Just imagine Bilbo in his easy chair, curled up by the fireplace with his favorite book and pipe. They also hear from "a very special guest from WETA Workshop - Sir Richard Taylor."

   Parental Guidance     Darrel Manson
At a recent press junket, I and other journalists met with the cast and director of Parental Guidance in round table interviews. One session featured the child actors Bailee Madison, Joshua Rush, and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf along with director Andy Fickman. The other session featured Billy Crystal, Bette Midler, and Marisa Tomei. Here are some of the gleanings from those interviews.
The children were asked what it was like having Billy Crystal and Bette Midler as grandparents in the film...

     The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
   Back to Middle-earth Dice
When your fan base has been waiting for eight years to see your movie, you'd best get it "right." Does Peter Jackson do that? Does the fan base even give him room to do that? There's just so much to say about this long-awaited return to cinema's Middle-earth.

News About What's in the Works for Film and Faith Managing Editor Greg Wright
Tyler Perry                  With the upcoming release of the edgy Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor (March 29, 2013) and Perry's recent turn as Alex Cross on the big screen, the one-man wrecking crew of commercial potential seems poised to establish himself as a major player in the filmed entertainment industry.
Northwestern University recently decided to be the first to host an academic symposium analyzing Perry's characters and work with a day long session titled "Madea's Big Scholarly Roundtable: Perspectives on the Media of Tyler Perry" on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Academics appear to be less than impressed with Perry's body of work.

     West of Memphis
   Guilty... NOT!  Darrel Manson
It's interesting that West of Memphis is being released just a few weeks after The Central Park Five. Both films deal with youthful suspects who were wrongly convicted and spend years in prison for crimes they had nothing to do with.
