Rise of the Guardians
Faith vs. Fear Darrel Manson
Although belief is not quite the same thing as faith, it functions as such in the film. The children of the story are believers, even if some scoff at them. It is that faith/belief that brings the power back to the Guardians, and also that allows the children to act when the Guardians are in need.

Red Dawn
Now Showing in the Past Dice
Wouldn't you like to read the same review over and over and over and over again? No? Well, why do you suppose Hollywood thinks you want to see the same movie over and over again? This feels like a film that is completely stuck in the '80s... and I liked it!

Stay Tuned for More Hobbit CoverageDevin Brown
People often wonder why God doesn't make our lives easier and simply solve all our problems for us. But the older we get, the more we come to see this strange assistance that looks like help only long afterwards as a blessing-in-disguise. As we watch Bilbo grow and mature, it is clear that Gandalf knew what he was doing. Be sure to check out the rest of our great Hobbit and Tolkien coverage:
Previews: Special Features: In The News
A relative handful of people were privileged to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at its premiere this week in New Zealand. Reaction seems to be very positive. We have a list of links with pictures and information, interviews with Ian McKellen and Peter Jackson... and much more. In Chapter Seven of The Hobbit, Bilbo's hunger is so intense "that he would have eaten acorns, if any had been ripe enough yet to have fallen to the ground." In this episode of Happy Hobbit, Kili explains how to make bitter acorns more palatable. Click through to see the video. On December 8 and 9, select theaters across the country will be hosting a Lord of the Rings marathon that includes all three extended editions of the trilogy. Word has been trickling out this week that more and more theaters in smaller markets are now offering the marathon. The latest Production Blog video from Peter Jackson was posted early this morning, and we have it here on Hollywood Jesus. Click through to view the video. |

Man of Steel
Earth One, Volume 2 Arnaldo Reyes
Continuing our advanced look at next summer's Man of Steel, we take a look at Volume 2 of J. Michael Straczynski's Superman Earth One.
The first volume became such a hit, it's no surprise that in its first month Volume 2 became the #1 graphic novel on the New York Time's best seller list.
Was it better than the first volume? Hard to say. It's a very good story that is highlighted again by Shane Davis' art.

News About What's in the Works for Film and Faith Managing Editor Greg Wright
Two and a Half Men Angus T. Jones has been playing Jake on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men for ten of his nineteen years... and now has had enough, apparently. And after a decision to foster his "spiritual needs" through fellowship at Forerunner Christian Church in Fremont, California, Jones has decided to go very public with his story of faith... and criticism of the show to which he is contracted through the end of the current season.
In a videotaped testimony posted on YouTube by Forerunner, Jones not only talks at length about his own personal experience but urges the TV audience to wake up, too. Just past the seven-minute mark, he lights into the show and the industry, observing that "there's no playing around when it comes to eternity." For him, that means coming to grips with his role in one of broadcast TV's raunchier shows. "Please stop watching it," Jones says. "Please stop filling your head with filth." He goes on to argue that "You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can't. I'm not OK with what I'm learning, what the Bible says, and being on that television show." CBS naturally has no immediate comment, but it's a cinch that between Jones and the network, the actor will soon get his wish. Check out the testimony, plus some thoughts from Patricia Heaton...

The mini-series is set to air on The History Channel in spring 2013. News from the event was completely embargoed (we did have a stringer on the scene!), but here's the announcement about the event.

How do we define masculinity? Does one need to be aggressive or assertive to be manly? Must one have physical strength to be manly? What a Man, a romantic comedy from Germany looks at notions of manliness.

More Than a "Christmas Movie" Steve Norton
Now on Home Video. Premiering last weekend on GMC, Christmas Angel is one of those rare films that takes our expectations of the "Christmas movie" and subverts them (in a good way). Plus...
