Two items that we think you'll be quite interested in. First - Last week we promised we'd be back in touch with you regarding the release of our detailed mitigation recommendations concerning the upcoming Commercial Core CDP rehearing, which has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, November 18th. Click here to read the official meeting announcement. We were in fact able to finish up our detailed analysis report and also document our lengthy discussions with OC DPH and harbor merchants over this past weekend as promised. Click here to read our letter to the the City of Dana Point, County and California Coastal Commission. Click here to read our analysis of the many recreational boating related shortfalls which still exist within the original CDP application for Commercial Core reconstruction. We hasten to add that we are recommending approval of this CDP, but only with stipulations consistent with the mitigation recommendations described in our documents just mentioned. Of course the finalized CDP application itself is still in draft (meaning we still haven't seen it) and so we are hopeful that it may address at least some of these recommendations. We can start figuring that out only when we get the latest several hundred pages, promised 72 hours before the meeting next Tuesday night. Second - Let's move on to some important late breaking news. As was reported in OC Register yesterday, the entire Dana Point Harbor, East Basin, Cove side has been posted by the county health department (aka "OC Health") and is officially closed until further notice. We contacted Dana Point Marina Company and the closure (has not effected access to slip tenants) is due to sewage contaminated water. This includes all docks, from A trough O. The font within the graphic above is probably too small to read clearly, but know this, red is definitely NOT a good thing! Click here to see the actual data reported by OC Beach Info. We exchanged email with OC DPH and learned, no surprise here, that the preliminary reports suggest that a spill has occurred upstream and come through the large main drain to dump into the harbor at the approximate point marked by the red pin point on the map above. OC Health is reportedly looking into it now. We'll let you know when we learn more. Needless to say, the timing here, while never would be the right time, is frankly awful. We have a major holiday season ahead of us in our harbor that you may have already heard about. If not, find out more by clicking here.
