Dana Point Boaters Association Endorses Lisa Bartlett for 5th
As you know, our Dana Point Harbor is owned by the State of California; however, it is entrusted to the County of Orange to manage and operate. The State Tidelands Trust and California Coastal Commission set the rules with which the operations and redevelopment of our Harbor must comply, yet it is the County at the tiller. As such, support by our Orange County Board of Supervisors is vital to the present and future of our Harbor. So it is imperative that residents of south Orange County's 5th district elect a representative who understands and appreciates our harbor, and who we can depend on to champion the protection and advancement of affordable recreational boating in Dana Point.
After considering the candidates to represent our 5th district, we believe strongly that current Dana Point Mayor and 5th district candidate Lisa Bartlett best represents the interests of Dana Point boaters. We have spoken at length with Mayor Bartlett and can attest to her in-depth knowledge of our Harbor and advocacy for its boaters. Further, Mayor Bartlett has asked us to pass along the note below.
We encourage our Dana Point boating community to vote on June 3rd and support Lisa Bartlett for 5th district supervisor.
Thank you,
Your Dana Point Boaters Association Board of Directors
And now a special note to Dana Point boaters from Lisa: (PDF version)
As a 25+ year resident of Dana Point I understand the value and joy our harbor brings to boaters, residents, and visitors alike. As a member of the Dana Point City Council I have devoted my time to maintaining the coastal atmosphere we hold dear to our hearts, while supporting and improving the development of our local economy.
The County of Orange, in association with the City of Dana Point, has decided to make the revitalization of Dana Point Harbor a priority. With this in mind, it is crucial that South Orange County elect a new County Supervisor who has first hand knowledge of the harbor and its history, the Coastal Commission and truly understands the needs of the boaters who use the harbor on a daily basis. In part, this is why I value and support the Dana Point Boaters Association. Collaborating on this project with this organization will add remarkable value to the long-term success of this project.
Considering phase one of the harbor revitalization plan focuses on the development of the landside improvements, it is critical that the waterside improvement phase follow without delay. Funding sources need to be identified for both phases of the project. I understand that the design and installation of the new docks are of great importance to the recreational boaters as it has been confirmed that the existing docks may not be in a maintainable condition after the next five years.
The county budget is very constrained and with so many other priorities it is important that we have the best leadership to represent us so this south Orange County asset is not abandoned halfway through the revitalization process without fully addressing the needs of the harbor community.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Finance, a Masters degree in Business Administration; I am a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a licensed Real Estate Broker. I spent 15 years as a corporate executive for an international computer software company and currently serve as a partner at a real estate and investment firm. As the only candidate for Orange County Supervisor who meets all the criteria for serving America's fifth largest county, and has the ability and foresight to address the needs and build consensus among the boating community, I respectfully ask for your vote.
If you have any comments, questions or suggestions about the Harbor Revitalization Project or other harbor, city or county issues, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Remember, vote Lisa Bartlett for Orange County Supervisor on June 3rd.
Lisa Bartlett
Mayor, City of Dana Point
Candidate for Orange County Supervisor, 5thDistrict
