For your review: Coastal Development Permit Application for Harbor Revitalization.

As we mentioned in an earlier newsletter, DPBA got our hands on the "preliminary" application for the coastal development permit to rebuild the "commercial core" - that's the shops, restaurants and parking - of our Dana Point Harbor.  And we've been poring over the three binders, 27 sections, 921 pages of the application to the City of Dana Point for a Coastal Development Permit, or CDP.

And now we're handing over the application to you for your review.  And we want your feedback.

We don't expect you to read all 921 pages; frankly, we haven't either.  Nobody probably will.  But we have sorted through every bit of the application to tag and highlight what matters most to our boaters.  Buried among the bird nest surveys, hydrology studies, arborist reports and other technical documents, we now have in exhausting detail what the County of Orange plans to build in our harbor.  And we will guide you through it.  Below are links to not only the entire application, but a few of the sections that matter most.

As you work your way through these materials, we're sure you will be impressed as we are with the amount of work and level of detail in the application.  And we applaud OC Dana Point Harbor Director Brad Gross and his team for a very thorough and professional application.  However, in these pages you will also bear witness to past battles fought on behalf of boaters, some won, some lost.  All old news for those of you that have followed along over the past few years.  Over the coming days and weeks, we will be highlighting and summarizing notable sections for you.  But we want to get your eyes on it now.  So here it is:

We've created a DPBA webpage dedicated to the CDP application:

And here are a few of the most noteworthy sections to get you started:

A few important notes before you begin reading...  OC Dana Point Harbor calls this a "preliminary application," meaning they expect to make a few changes before submitting it for final approval.  As changes are made, we will present them to you.  You will also see details about the planned dry stack storage building to replace the Embarcadero, but officially this is not part of the application; The California Coastal Commission will consider a separate building permit for the "boat barn" at a later date.  This application also does not include the waterside portion (docks, etc.) of Harbor Revitalization, which is a separate project and will have its own application to the Coastal Commission.

As you review these materials, please offer your feedback to us.  Or ask any questions.

And to ensure we have the means to continue to work to protect and advance affordable recreational boating in Dana Point Harbor, please offer your support.

Our Thanks,

Board of Directors
