Green Apple Day of Service

IU Student Group GADS2The campus garden is an IU Office of Sustainability project that aims to foster environmental and social sustainability by creating interactive, edible gardening spaces on the IU-Bloomington campus. This 8,500 square foot garden will increase the edible gardening space overseen by the Campus Garden Initiative by almost 10-fold. Food from the garden goes to food banks, the campus dining services, and to the volunteers. USGBC Students helped with regular gardening activities such as weeding, thinning, planting, watering, and harvesting!

Greetings!

Just wanted to share a few notes from our recent
 LEED v4 Update:
  • 5th Public Comment Oct 2 - Dec 10
  • Beta Testing Now Available
  • Balloting in Summer 2012
The LEED v4 Workshop held at Structure Point in Indianapolis was a full house with representatives from across the state getting a first hand look at the changes developing on the horizon for LEED v4.  Presenter Corey Enck, Director of LEED Technical Development, collaborates with volunteer technical committees to evolve and refine USGBC's LEED green building rating system.
Q&A prevailed over the agenda with a lot of information crammed into the 60 minute session.
Q: Is the longterm goal to stay in lock step with ASHRAE? -Dan Overbey.  A: Yes, ...the LEED rating system doesn't work as code being designed to be a voluntary guide but it is being adopted by municipalities hence the concentrated effort to bring the technical language as current as possible.  V4 is the 1st Global Form of LEED.
Q: Will O&M be required? -Heather Schafer  A: That is something we are looking to have in the future, not in v4.
Q: I understand the big change is the addition of a credit for Integrated Process? -Tracey Parfitt  A: It is found at the beginning of the project information and not under any one credit.

The Ivy Tech Community College Takes on the LEED Rating System takes on the LEED Rating System and Succeeds!

Greencastle Center for Workforce and Economic Development adds to the growing collection of green buildings on the Ivy Tech Community College Campus network certified by the LEED rating System.

The Ivy Tech Community College Greencastle Center for Workforce and Economic Development was constructed in response to enrollment increases and strong demand for expanded and additional programs.  New and improved services to the community are attained by an increase in accessible, quality space for general classrooms, dedicated labs, and flexible space for short-term training. The project also supports the development of services and technology delivery systems to outlying communities that are not served by another instructional center.

The new campus is located at the intersection of State Highway 240 and Zinc Mill Road, across from  Greencastle Middle and High Schools. The project replaces space leased from the Area 30 Career Center. The City of Greencastle provided approximately 30 acres of land for the project at no cost to the College.

The Department of Workforce and Economic Development has office space and serves the community from the new facility.  The project reflects both fiscal sustainability as well as environmental stewardship and promises to serve the community well in the coming years.
