Placido Domingo Song Session at Avatar Studios, NY
Songs range from lesser known "Eternally" penned by Charles Chaplin film 'Limelight' to the more contemporary hit "From This Moment On" by Shania Twain (a duet with Boyle). Then there's classics by composers like Hubert Giraud "Sous le ciel de Paris" (with Josh Groban), the ever so popular "Besame Mucho written by Consuelo Velazquez (featuring Chris Botti) and Jobim's "The Girl From Ipanema."
Domingo voice is unmistakenbly familiar and commanding in "Parla piu piano" (theme from the Godfather). He comfortably steps out of his more familiar world of theater and opera and strolls into the recording studio with cross over pop tunes singing in French, Spanish and English. It's easy to imagine Placido on the silver screen. Perhaps an opportunity missed for the casting director of the new 007 film. Well, you heard it here first! Hollywood agents take note! Though the arrangements and orchestration is predictable, you can always count on Domingo's larger than life presence and charming exchange with his guest artists.
"As one of our century's iconic voices, Maestro Domingo injects passion and warmth to 14 timeless songs on his new album. It was a true pleasure and honor to work with him and his stellar guest artists," says the producer, 11-time Grammy winner Rafa Sardina (Stevie Wonder, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Lady Gaga) who engineered and mixed Songs.

Do you promote your friend's song on your social network? Gwyneth Paltrow made noise last July on her way to Watch The Throne tour when she tweeted a rather offensive word (now white people can say) even though she was referencing to JayZ song and didn't pen the quote herself. For example, you can tweet a message to your friend using songs by your favorite artis (below sentence has songs by Green Day, Death Cab for Cutie, Switchfoot, and The Beatles song). You're an "Extraordinary man", but "Your Heart Is an Empty Room", and I know this isn't "The Beautiful Letdown" you were hoping for "Yesterday." According to the MLA style guide, the song title should be in quotes, and the album title should be underlined or italicized. Go promote!

Mozart's Fortepiano
The fortepiano that Mozart played for close to a decade is back at his former Vienna home, now a museum. Mozart bought the instrument from Anton Walter, the most famous Viennese piano maker of his time, in 1782. He and his wife Constanze lived in the apartment near St Stephen's Cathedral, where they married, at the height of Mozart's fame. After Mozart's death, Constanze gave the instrument to their eldest surviving son, Carl Thomas, who donated it to the then Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum on what would have been the composer's 100th birthday. The piano is now part of the permanent exhibition at the Mozart family home in the Austrian city of Salzburg.

Blak And Blu
October 22, 2012
WB Records
Is he the next Hendrix?
"I was really inspired all at once to do all kinds of different things," he told his hometown newspaper, the Austin American-Statesman, citing an array of inspirations from Skip James to Otis Redding to Albert King, Freddie King, to Nina Simone to Jimi Hendrix to OutKast to Green Day, Nirvana, The Strokes to Marvin Gaye and just about anything and everything in between.
Where would this lead? "I'm not exactly sure myself," he laughs. Written by Gary Clark Jr., Gil Scott-Heron, Brian Jackson, and Don Robey, The album is produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple) with Warner Bros. Records chairman Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Dave Matthews Band, My Chemical Romance) and Clark, puts his talents and ambitions through a brilliant prism of vast possibilities. Blak And Blu is a rocket ride rushing from the Mississippi Delta of a century ago to a point somewhere ahead of the horizon, gathering up the whole of blues, rock and soul along the way. Mr Clark Jr still is at his best live.
We tend to agree with Gary: "Music is movement. It all moves together, like lifetimes-a continuum. It's all part of the same fabric in the end."

Falling Short? Hands down
Adele is one of the brightest voices of our time. "Skyfall," out this month, is co-written by Adele and collaborator Paul Epsworth. It sports lush sound of a 77-piece orchestra recorded at the Abby Road Studio. But, will it be remembered alongside Dame Shirley Bassey classics "Goldfinger," "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Moonraker"?
Adams' Nixon In China Over a quarter century, Adams' opera, based on President Nixon's '72 peacemaking visit to China, has become nearly as strong a candidate as Nixon himself was. With at least 44 productions so far, the opera has been recorded twice and heard more than 200 times in famed houses in New York, Vienna, London, Boulder, Colo., Portland, Ore., Kansas City, Mo. and Freiburg, Germany. New Yorker music critic Alex Ross, in his award-winning book The Rest is Noise, takes an opposite view of Adams' music, Alice Goodman's libretto and director Peter Sellars' production, calling Nixon possibly the greatest American opera since Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. |
