Acupuncture Proven Effective in Relieving Pediatric Chronic Pain
A new study from Rush University Medical Center suggests that acupuncture can be a safe and effective treatment for children who experience chronic
headaches, stomach pain, musculoskeletal pain, injuries, scoliosis and Crohn's disease. While acupuncture is known to reduce adult pain, up until now little data has existed on its effectiveness for pediatric pain.
All 55 pediatric patients in the study reported significant and progressive declines in pain throughout the eight-session treatment. In addition to pain relief, participants reported significant reductions in emotional, social and educational and health problems. The study results are particularly promising for children who suffer from sickle cell anemia and side effects of cancer treatment.
