SleddingFun things to Do:
From the novel to the tried-and-true

With the new year we begin our next season of programs for all ages. This month you can take advantage of drop-in sessions to learn how to download eBooks from the Library's collection to your eReader. Or, you can participate in a pie bake-off. Our drop-in storytimes for preschooler's (from ages 6-months through 5-years) begin the week of January 15th. And the monthly book discussion groups resume their meetings.

The Friends of the Library will be holding their annual membership luncheon mid-month and a huge used book sale at month's end. This is the book sale that includes back issues of magazines the Library is cycling out of our collection to make room for new issues.

You can view a month's worth of activities on the Calendar of Events on our website. When you see something that you would like to attend, just click on the event to register.

Updates to services

The Library is in the process of refreshing a couple of services that have been around for years.
  1. New Early Literacy Stations in our Children's department replace the aging collection of educational software on CD-ROM.
With funds raised by our Friends of the Library we have purchased 2 workstations from AWE, Digital Learning Solutions. These Early Literacy Stations (ELS) are a dynamic all-in-one digital learning solution for children ages 2-8. The latest version features more than 60 educational software titles spanning seven curricular areas. The educational titles are pre-loaded on the computer and displayed using engaging graphics and intuitive menus. No Internet connection is required.
  2. New self-service fax from Fax24 is now located in our circulation lobby.
This station is dedicated to out-going fax messages that patrons can send themselves. The service ensures the privacy of the content of the sender's message and allows the convenience of not having to wait in line at the circulation desk to send that fax.

Resolve to Read More in the New Year
As you are making resolutions for 2013, consider adding "resolve to read more" to your list. Karen Mitchell (librarian on our Adults' Services staff and facilitator of the Tuesday evening book discussion group) has developed a range of possibilities to help you reach this goal. She starts with a great suggestion for readers who are pressed for time at Short Stories.

If you are looking for recommendations on a range of new titles, Karen's blog page will have weekly updates on select new books in the collection.
