NEW WEBSITE!

With the new season, we are excited to share a new website with the world! Our new site is viewer friendly across all platforms and mobile devices so it is easier for you to stay in touch with BCC.

Today's world is fast-paced and we all rely on technology to make our lives easier. Computers and phones, however, do not solve all of our problems. Genuine relationships, a friendly smile and singing a favorite tune go a long way to making our lives better. At BCC we strive to connect people together that normally would not meet, even with all our digital devices. At BCC we strive to breakdown barriers even if those barriers are our phones and earbuds. At BCC we strive to teach music that can unite us all. Please get vocal and join us! (Please note it may take 24 hours for all internet providers to update our website page or you may need to delete your cache or history and close and reopen your web browser)

OCTOBER E-NEWS

250 TRAINING & INTERMEDIATE SINGERS BOND

BCC's youngest singers took over the Blue Hills Boys & Girls Club on Sept. 26 for their annual retreat. Eight choirs had the chance to meet one another, work with different conductors and express themselves with a dance workshop with the Self Expression Project.  The singers also made Heart Cards and Peace Posters as part of a singer-created Words Matter project.  Click here to see more photos from the day.

BCC PERFORMS AT
SYMPHONY HALL

On Oct. 5, BCC's Premier Choir & Young Men's Ensemble performed at Symphony Hall as part of the Terezin Music Foundation Gala. BCC traveled to Prague and Berlin over the summer to visit the Terezin Concentration Camp and learn more about the Holocaust. On tour BCC sang four commissioned pieces and presented the world premiere of another commission at the Oct 5 gala. Special thanks to TMF Executive Director Mark Ludwig for inviting us to sing. One singer commented, "It was was very meaningful to get to sing these works about liberation in Europe and at home."

CHORAL UNION GOES ON RETREAT

For the second year, Choral Union went on retreat with the other upper choirs at the Ron Burton Training Village.  The choir enjoyed their time bonding, learning music, participating in an acting workshop and a BCC movie and ice cream night. After the retreat, the singers talked about what they enjoyed. Even though there were long days, they "enjoyed singing together with the other choirs and spending time getting to know one another better."

MEET BCC'S NEWEST GROUP!
THE JR. MEN'S ENSEMBLE

Over the last few years, BCC has been eager to start a second young men's group to support the changing voices of young teens and to continue to encourage the participation of male singers. This was finally the year that the right mix of boys, staff and space came together. The group meets each week on Wednesday in BCC's Social Innovation Lab.

We are excited that this group meets on the same day as Dr. TK and the Young Men's Ensemble, and already the two groups have had a chance to work together. Watch a great clip of them collaborating together to create a flash mob in Concert Choir's rehearsal:

JOIN BCC FOR A FILM SCREENING
ABOUT THE AFRICAN CHILDREN'S CHOIR
BCC is excited to partner with the GRAMMY-nominated African Children's Choir to bring their journey to the silver screen in Boston! 100% of the proceeds will go to support ACC in building a secondary school back home in Uganda. The viewing is part of an initiative to provide BCC families the opportunity to socialize and spend time with one another outside of their normal rehearsals. We need to reserve enough tickets by Oct 16 in order to show the film.  Please help us!

IMBA MEANS SING is the story of one little boy who is a big star. Growing up in the slums of Kampala, Uganda, Moses and his family lack enough resources for him to even attend the first grade. Moses is only eight-years-old when the film begins - yet he knows all too well that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to secure his future and change the course of his family's life. The film follows Moses as he works for an education and spreads the magic of his African childhood.

BCC SPOTLIGHT: THE MEJIA-GUERRERO FAMILY
"Music has always been a part of our culture; we need music as much as we need food and soccer!"

Hello BCC family! We are the Mejia-Guerrero family, Rocio Guerrero and Jose Mejia, parents of FOUR BCC members Josie, Rocio, Jose, and Rolando and ONE BCC alumni, Ana Mejia. We also have an older son who unfortunately was not a member of the BCC but was a part of it through his attendance of his siblings' many concerts.

Our family joined the BCC in 2005 when Ana was in 3rd grade. Her school music teacher referred her as she showed her interest in music. I remember Ana's nervousness when she went to audition. But what we all remember the most was when she received that red envelope with the BCC logo inviting her to be a part of this growing organization. The first thing we did was go out to celebrate with Ice Cream. Little did we know that Ana would not be the only one accepted-it would become a family thing! Not just because her younger siblings eventually followed in her footsteps as ambassadors of harmony but also because the BCC welcomed our family as a whole. Read more of the Mejia-Guerrero family story here in Spanish and English.

DR. ANTHONY TRECEK-KING
CELEBRATES 10 YEARS WITH BCC

Dr. TK, as he is fondly known now that he earned his Ph.D in choral conducting from Boston University, is entering his 10th year with BCC.  Having joined BCC in 2006 as Artistic Director, the organization has grown from 200 singers to over 450 and has been recognized as a national leader among choral organizations.

Come celebrate Anthony as he conducts some of his favorite music at one of his favorite venues: the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum's Calderwood Hall.
