HPL accepts Mitten Tree donations

This Saturday is the deadline for accepting donations of new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for the Mitten Tree, sponsored by Friends of St. Anthony Hospice. Items will be distributed to area residents in need. You may drop off items until Sat., Dec. 19.
Highlights for the week of Dec. 14

Mon., Dec. 14:
  • 11 a.m.: Mouse Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m.: ACME Pawn Pushers chess
  • 1 p.m.: Music Monday: youth listen to songs, play music, and dance.
  • 2 p.m.: E-mail Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 4 p.m.: Lego Club: ages 6-13 have fun and create with the library's Legos. 
Tues., Dec. 15:
  • 1 p.m.: **CANCELLED**EAT Murals: What's That All About? Artists Felix Maldonado and Ish Muhammad discuss their new mural.
  • 2 p.m.: Word Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 5:30 p.m.: HPL Foundation Partners. Community members are invited to assist the Foundation's efforts.
Wed., Dec. 16:
  • 12 pm: Healthy Hammond - Regional Health Centers discuss methods to stop smoking.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Welcome to the World of Music 
  • 7 p.m.: Songwriting Fundamentals: Rich Boban presents the 3rd of 4 classes.
    Next class is Wed., Dec. 30. 
Thurs., Dec. 17:
  • 10 a.m.: Babies & Books (newborns to age 18 months)
  • 10:30 a.m.: Tiny Tots (ages 18 months-2 years)
  • 11 a.m.: Twos and Threes (ages 2-3 participate in stories, songs and activities about the holiday).
  • 4 p.m. Teen Candymaking: Teens learn how to make some sweet treats.
Teen Winter Reading runs through Dec. 31

The program is for teens in grades 7-12. Just read a book from the library, and you're entered into a drawing for a $50 Best Buy gift card. Questions? Ask at the Information Desk or call (219) 931-5100, Ext. 351.

  • 3 pm: Beyond Our Borders discusses Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendeker.
  • 4 p.m.: Tween Chat and Craft (ages 10-13) Chat with us about a book you recently read and loved. You'll also craft a bookmark to use for your next awesome book! 

Wed., Dec. 23:

  • 6:30 p.m.: Welcome to the World of Music 
  • 7 p.m.: Songwriting Fundamentals DOES NOT MEET this week. Next class is Wed., Dec. 30. 
Thurs., Dec. 24:  LIBRARY CLOSED

Fri., Dec. 25: LIBRARY CLOSED.

 

We reopen Sat., Dec. 26 at 9 a.m. There is NO FRIENDS' HALF-PRICE SALE.
