Wed., Dec. 9 
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Digital Download Open House. Learn to download e-books and dozens of magazines. Bring your mobile device; we'll help get you started.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Welcome to the World of Music: Florian Bolsega teaches music theory.
  • 7 p.m.: Part 2 of Rich Boban's Songwriting Fundamentals class. Remaining sessions are Dec. 16 and Dec. 30.
Thurs., Dec. 10  
  • 4 p.m.: Kids Can 2: No Two Snowflakes Are Alike (ages 6-9). Every snowflake is different. Join us to create your own!
Fri., Dec. 11
  • 1 p.m.: Fridays at the Movies: Bless Me Ultima. in English with Spanish subtitles.

  • 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Half price sale for Friends members only.

HPL accepts Mitten Tree donations

HPL again accepts donations of new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for the Mitten Tree, sponsored by Friends of St. Anthony Hospice. Items will be distributed to area residents in need. You may drop off items until Sat., Dec. 19.

Mon., Dec. 14:
  • 11 a.m.: Mouse Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 1 p.m.: Music Monday: youth listen to songs, play music, and dance.
  • 2 p.m.: E-mail Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 4 p.m.: Lego Club: ages 6-13 have fun and create with the library's Legos. 
Tues., Dec. 15:
  • 1 p.m.: EAT Murals: What's That All About? Artists Felix Maldonado and Ish Muhammad discuss their new mural on the wall of Eat, An American Bistro. They also discuss other public art projects they've done.
  • 2 p.m.: Word Basics computer class. Register at 219-931-5100, ext. 345.
  • 5:30 p.m.: HPL Foundation Partners. Community members are invited to assist the Foundation's efforts.
Wed., Dec. 16:
  • 12 pm: Healthy Hammond - Regional Health Centers discuss methods to stop smoking.
  • 6:30 p.m.: Welcome to the World of Music (see Dec. 9 listing)
  • 7 p.m.: Songwriting Fundamentals (see Dec. 9 listing)
Thurs., Dec. 17:
  • 10 a.m.: Babies & Books (newborns to age 18 months)
  • 10:30 a.m.: Tiny Tots (ages 18 months-2 years)
  • 11 a.m.: Twos and Threes (ages 2-3 participate in stories, songs and activities about the holiday).
  • 4 p.m. Teen Candymaking: Teens learn how to make some sweet treats.
HOLIDAY HOURS:

HPL is closed Thurs., Dec. 24 and Fri., Dec. 25. We reopen Sat., Dec. 26 at 9 a.m.

HPL closes Thurs., Dec. 31 at 5 p.m., and is closed on Fri., Jan. 1, 2016.

Dec. 21: Beyond Our Borders discusses The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, and Tween Chat and Craft invites ages 10-13 to discuss books and make a bookmark.

Computer classes include basic classes in using the mouse, Internet, email, and Microsoft Word. We offer free advanced classes in Word, Banners and Charts, Intro To  Excel, PowerPoint, and Letters & Resumes. Check out our classes and sign up today!
