Mark your calendar for these programs:
- Tues., March 24 from 4-6 p.m.: Preschool Roundup. Participating preschools answer parents' questions.
- Mon., March 30 from 2-4 p.m.: Blood pressure screening is given by Laura Lovell of North Shore Heath Centers.
- Wed., April 1 at 1 p.m.: Life-Size Candyland (ages 6-13). Kids, do you like to play the game "Candyland"? Join us to play a life-sized version! Please register by calling Youth Services at (219) 931-5100, Ext. 336.
- Sat., April 4 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.: What's your stuff worth? Do you have an heirloom? Valerie Macko of Macko's Antique Galleries will be here to appraise your antiques.
- Tues., April 14 from 6-8 p.m.: Enjoy magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more via our down-loadable digital content! Need a demonstration? Not sure how to get started? Bring your device to this Digital Downloads Open House and our staff will help get you started.
Borrow DVDs for FREE! Also, DVDs that had a 2-day loan period now can be borrowed for 7 days. Fines for late DVDs are $1 per day, per DVD (maximum fine of $28 per DVD).

Free Computer Classes
Location: Computer Lab

Classes are 60 to 90 minutes in length. Registration is required. E-mail, Internet and Word Basic classes require you to be familiar with the computer mouse, and to have beginning keyboarding skills. Classes are FREE, but space is limited. Registration is required. Call (219)931-5100 and ask for Carol Williams or ext. 345, to check availability and to reserve your slot.
Mouse Basics:
Learn about using the mouse; common computer terms; how to work with menus and forms; how to copy and paste; more. No experience required to attend.
Mon., April 13 at 11 a.m. Tues., April 28 at 2 p.m.
An introduction to the program that gets you on the Internet along with how to browse or go directly to a website you want. Internet searching and printing options are also discussed. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills.
Mon., April 20 at 11 a.m. Tues., March 31 or April 14 at 2 p.m.
Email Basics:
Review the layout of web-based e-mail, how e-mail programs are structured and how you can customize your mail storage. We'll cover reading, organizing and sending mail in a hands-on session. E-mail accounts for class use will be provided, so don't worry if you don't yet have your own. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills. Mon., March 23 or April 27 at 11 a.m. Mon., April 20 at 2 p.m.
Learn beginning word processing techniques to get you started on a variety of possible projects. We'll review how to navigate the program, choosing your settings, making changes as you go along or after you've typed your material, inserting a simple graphic and more. A practice project gives you hands-on experience with the program. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills. Monday, March 30 at 11 a.m.

Windows 8 Basics:
Become familiar with the new Windows 8 layout, launch apps, move between screens and more. Must be familiar with computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills. Tues., March 24 at 2 p.m. Mon., April 6 at 11 a.m. Mon., April 27 at 2 p.m.

Intermediate and advanced level classes are designed to sharpen your existing skills. Familiarity with keyboard/mouse and basic word processing is required to attend these sessions. Improve your documents by learning more about text, spacing, paragraph formatting, borders, bullets and more.

Word 3 (formerly Advanced Word) - estimated class time 2 hours
Go beyond text. We'll focus on working with images and shapes. Also touched upon with be text boxes and charts. Tues., April 28 at 6 p.m.
Banners in Word - estimated class time 2 hours
Creating a banner using Word is easier than you think. If you can format text, adjust margins and work with images and shapes, you can do this!

Intro to Excel - estimated class time 2 hours
Learn your way around Excel, see how easy it is to store, organize and make the most of your information. We'll review worksheets, cells, data entry, fill options, using formulas, creating functions and more.

PowerPoint - estimated class time 2 hours
Create photo slide shows and professional presentations quickly and easily! Learn about design themes and slide layouts, inserting graphics and media clips onto your slides, tips to use when making your presentations and more.

Letters & Resumes - estimated class time 60-90 minutes
We'll discuss the professional way to format a letter, how to create a great cover letter and how to build the best resume for you.

Family Life in the Civil War Thurs., April 30 at 5:30 p.m. This year is the 10th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Learn about what it was like to be a kid during that time, and make a Civil War craft.

The Library offers FREE reading tutoring to students in kindergarten-12th grade. This is a walk-in service. Call Youth Services for more information.
