STARTING FEB. 14: A SWEETHEART DEAL FOR DVDs
Starting Sat., Feb. 14, there will no longer be a charge to borrow DVDs. Also, for DVDs that had a 2-day loan period, that time is extended to 7 days. Fines for late DVDs will be $1 per day, per DVD, with a maximum fine of $28 per DVD.

A staff member from North Shore Health Centers performs blood pressure checks on the last Monday of the month. 

Free Computer Classes

Basic Classes: 
Classes are 60 to 90 minutes in length. Registration is required. E-mail, Internet and Word Basic classes require you to be familiar with the computer mouse, and to have beginning keyboarding skills.  Classes are FREE, but space is limited. Registration is required. Call (219)931-5100 and ask for Carol Williams or ext. 345, to check availability and to reserve your slot.
 
Mouse Basics: 

Learn about using the mouse; common computer terms; how to work with menus and forms; how to copy and paste; more. No experience required to attend.

Internet Basics:

An introduction to the program that gets you on the Internet along with how to browse or go directly to a website you want. Internet searching and printing options are also discussed. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills.

E-mail Basics:

Review the layout of web-based e-mail, how e-mail programs are structured and how you can customize your mail storage. We'll cover reading, organizing and sending mail in a hands-on session. E-mail accounts for class use will be provided, so don't worry if you don't yet have your own. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills.

Word Basics:

Learn beginning word processing techniques to get you started on a variety of possible projects. We'll review how to navigate the program, choosing your settings, making changes as you go along or after you've typed your material, inserting a simple graphic and more. A practice project gives you hands-on experience with the program. Must be familiar with the computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills.

Windows 8 Basics:    
Become familiar with the new Windows 8 layout, launch apps, move between screens and more. Must be familiar with computer mouse and have basic keyboarding skills.

Intermediate and advanced level classes are designed to sharpen your existing skills. Familiarity with keyboard/mouse and basic word processing is required to attend these sessions. Improve your documents by learning more about text, spacing, paragraph formatting, borders, bullets and more.

Word 3 (formerly Advanced Word) - estimated class time 2 hours

Go beyond text. We'll focus on working with images and shapes. Also touched upon with be text boxes and charts.
 
Tues., March 10 at 6 p.m.

 

Banners in Word - estimated class time 2 hours

Creating a banner using Word is easier than you think. If you can format text, adjust margins and work with images and shapes, you can do this!

Tues., March 31 at 6 p.m.

 

Intro to Excel - estimated class time 2 hours 

Learn your way around Excel, see how easy it is to store, organize and make the most of your information. We'll review worksheets, cells, data entry, fill options, using formulas, creating functions and more.

Mon., March 23 at 2 p.m.
 
 

PowerPoint - estimated class time 2 hours

Create photo slide shows and professional presentations quickly and easily! Learn about design themes and slide layouts, inserting graphics and media clips onto your slides, tips to use when making your presentations and more.

Letters & Resumes - estimated class time 60-90 minutes

We'll discuss the professional way to format a letter, how to create a great cover letter and how to build the best resume for you.

Career Day for Homeschoolers

Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m.: Join us as we explore different careers. Feel free to dress for the career of your choice! All ages are welcome, but much of the program is geared toward ages 6 - 13. 

 

Reading Tutoring / Tutor de Lectura

The Library offers FREE reading tutoring to students in kindergarten-12th grade. This is a walk-in service. Call Youth Services for more information.
