AMERICAN TURKISH SOCIETY GRANTS
Deadline: Nov. 1, 2014

Link for information

The American Turkish Society, with support from the Turkish Health and Education Foundation (SEV), has announced the availability of curriculum development grants for Spring 2015. These grants are intended to support elementary and secondary school teachers in the United States working to develop innovative curricula, projects, or other classroom activities about Turkey.

Through the annual program, selected teachers will visit SEV Schools in Turkey, where they will be able to engage with teachers about their curriculum development work. Workshops will be arranged to facilitate the dialogue. Once selected, grantees will be free to develop their proposed projects without editorial input from the society. They will, however, be required to participate in follow-up activities for evaluation purposes and will be asked to share any teaching plans, materials, and activities with the society for future dissemination.

Grants of up to $2,500 will be awarded to cover the costs of research, materials, speakers, and other expenses incurred by the school or teacher. The society encourages all applicants to identify additional sources of funding where possible. Preference is given to schools that do not currently have Turkey-related programs in place. All elementary and secondary school teachers in the U.S. interested in teaching about Turkey are eligible to apply.

Eight finalist teams and their coaches will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World to attend the program's National Championship Week and compete for cash prizes as well as development grants of $200 to further refine their ideas. Two gold medal-winning teams will receive $2,000 per team member as well as a medal for each team member.

AASL INNOVATIVE READING GRANTS
Deadline: Feb. 1, 2015
Link for information

The American Association of School Librarians, a division of the American Library Association, is accepting applications from school librarians for its AASL Innovative Reading Grant program.

One grant in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded in support of the planning and implementation of a unique and innovative program for children that motivates and encourages reading, especially among struggling readers.

Projects should promote the importance of reading and facilitate literacy development by supporting current reading research, practice, and policy. In addition, projects must be specifically designed for children (grades K-9) in the school library setting, encourage innovative ways to motivate and involve children in reading, and should demonstrate potential to improve student learning.

To be eligible, applicants must be a member of AASL. Grant recipients may be invited to write an article that delineates their reading incentive project and demonstrates their successes, trials, and recommendations so others may replicate the project.
