Youth Summer Reading, "Fizz, Boom, Read!"  

Early Literacy (Ages 0 - 2): monthly early literacy activity sheets. Each parent/child can complete up to 3 activity sheets. There is no time requirement. Each activity sheet has 30 early literacy skill building activities, and parents are asked to complete at least 20 activities. Once you complete at least 20 activities, you get a prize. If you complete all three activity sheets, you receive a grand prize.

Read to Me (Ages 3 - 5): Each child receives a reading log in a booklet format. For every 10 books that are read to them, they earn a prize. The grand prize goal for these children is to have 50 books read to them.

Primary (Grades k - 3) and Intermediate (Grades k - 4) programs consist of a reading log for 30 books. Every 100 pages read earns the child 1 point. For every 5 points that the child earns, they get a prize. Once the child earns 30 points, they get their grand prize. They must read at least 2 fiction books, 2 non-fiction books, 1 biography, and 1 award book. As an an incentive for attending programs,  children receive Program Punch Cards when they attend their first program of the summer. Cards will be "punched," or stamped, for every program they attend. Once they attend a certain amount of programs, they are entered to win a family activity basket at the end of Summer Reading.

All books must be library books, but books can be read  in the library if the child does not have a card. We encourage children to read at their appropriate level.

July 29: Let's craft a peacock!

In August, we'll learn more about the zoo. Join us for stories, songs, and finger plays about zoo animals.

Aug. 5: Join us for a giraffe craft. Please wear play clothes.

Aug. 12: Today we will make an elephant craft.

Beginner Science Club (Ages 6 through 8)

Mondays at 1 p.m.

July 14: Do you want to be a scientist? Test your skills with an experiment about acids and bases.

July 21: Use everyday items to make silly putty. See how it bounces and changes shape.

July 28: Explore the science of density! Watch raisins dance, and popcorn bounce.

Aug. 4: Create your own masterpiece by experimenting with primary colors.

Kids Can 2! (Ages 6 through 8)

Tuesdays at 1 p.m.

July 15: Learn to identify parts of a plant, and learn how and where they grow.
July 22: Learn about different inventors, and create your own invention.

July 29: Let's break some codes! Learn how to cipher messages and break codes. Create your own!  

Aug. 5: Join us to learn how to read a map, and to learn about children from other parts of the world.

Tween Lego Club (Ages 9 through 13)

July 16, July 23, July 30: Join us to play "It's a Mystery" with the library's Legos.

Aug. 6: Join us to build a car with the library's Legos. You also have a chance to win  prize for guessing how many Legos are in a jar.

July 17: Learn about the different places animals live, and ways in which they stay safe.

July 24: Do you like to imagine being somewhere far away? Join us to explore the National Parks and enjoy their beauty.

July 31: How did people find their way before GPS or Google Maps? Join us to learn about different types of maps.

Aug. 7: Do you like to solve mysteries? Join us today to see if you can solve a "crime" in the library.
