Just bring your driver's license or state I.D., along with proof of your school employment (pay stub, etc.), and receive a special HPL card good during the school year. Please encourage your students to obtain or renew their library cards, as well.

GRANTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

 ________________________________

Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Minigrants
Deadline: March 15, 2014
Amount: Up to $500

Website: http://www.ezra-jack-keats.org/minigrant-program/

Established by children's book author and illustrator Ezra Jack Keats, the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation is accepting applications from public schools and public libraries anywhere in the United States and its territories for program or event mini-grants of up to $500.

The mini-grants program is intended to support projects that foster creative expression, collaboration, and interaction with a diverse community. The funding program provides an opportunity for educators, whose efforts are often inadequately funded or recognized, to create special activities outside the standard curriculum and make time to encourage their students.

Projects funded in the past include murals, pen pal groups, quilts, theater productions, newspapers and other publications, intergenerational activities, and programs that bring disparate communities together.

Public schools and public libraries are eligible to apply. Preschool head start programs also are eligible. Only public organizations are eligible; private and parochial schools should not apply. Charter schools also are ineligible. Applicants must be located in the U.S. or its commonwealths or territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam. Only one application from each library or school will be considered.

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics PreK-8 Action Research Projects
Deadline: May 2, 2014
Amount: Up to $3,000

The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is inviting proposals for collaborative research projects aimed at improving the teaching of mathematics in preK-8 classrooms.

Through its 2014-2015 PreK-8 Preservice Teacher Action Research grants program, NCTM will support collaborative projects conducted by teams of researchers consisting of university, elementary/middle school teachers, and pre-service teachers at the undergraduate level. The action research should be designed, implemented, and completed with a focus on enhancing the teaching and/or learning of mathematics in grades preK-8.

NCTM defines "action research" as a form of investigation designed for use by teachers to attempt to solve problems and improve professional practices in their own classrooms.

Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded for a project to be conducted between June 1, 2014, and August 31, 2015.

To be eligible, applicants must be current full individual members or e-members of NCTM or must teach at a school with a current NCTM preK-8 school membership. Participating pre-service teachers must be in an initial licensure/certification program at the undergraduate level and, at some point during the term of the grant, must be engaged in some form of practicum experience or student teaching.
