We are a church that is a catalyst, convener and bridge builder.
Our faith calls us to see the world as interdependent. The ELCA has become a force for connection, working across denominations, faiths, organizations and sectors, locally and globally. We're a welcome partner because we respect the perspectives and strengths of others and share a common vision to uphold human dignity.
We Walk Together
The synod staff will pray for these congregations and rostered leaders during their next weekly staff meeting. We invite you to include them in your prayers this week as well.

US Tornadoes
The situation
Several tornadoes have ripped through multiple states causing loss of life and massive devastation, and the threat of more tornado outbreaks is looming. Hundreds of people must now find a way to rebuild their lives, homes and communities after the tornadoes destroyed almost everything they had.
Our response: Lutheran Disaster Response is at work, assessing the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the tornadoes. Through our extensive network of ELCA members, local congregations, synods and Lutheran Social Service affiliates in the affected area - Lutheran Disaster Response will help wherever we are needed.
We are a church that rolls up its sleeves and gets to work. We know it will be a long road to recovery, and your gifts are needed now to begin coordinating volunteers, rebuilding homes and offering spiritual and emotional care to those in need. Find out what you can do to help.

Youth Reach Out to Help Others
Confirmation youth from Central Lutheran, Mondovi, helped make LWR health care kits after collecting soap, tooth brushes, nail clippers, combs and bath towels during the Wednesdays in Lent. About 90 health kits were assembled and delivered to LWR in Saint Paul.
Thanks to Pastor Rolf Morck for sharing this photo and story.

Global Relationships
From the Hand in Hand Blog:
"A student of life forever" (4/29/2014)
Elizabeth Birch is spending a year in Mexico City volunteering at an orphanage through the ELCA's Young Adults in Global Mission program. This is a recent post from her blog, "The Year She Spent in Mexico." To support Elizabeth, or others in the program, go here.
At the convent I have this friend, Sister Margarita. After lunch we get together and chat for a little while to better her English, and my Spanish. Every Thursday she greets me eager to learn more words and pronunciations. She is in her 80s and began teaching herself English at a young age. Her tactic, she tells me, is reading the Bible in English and translating sentences over to Spanish. What incredible patience is needed for that. But little by little she learns the translations and says them out loud to practice the pronunciation. I envy her patience. Most of these women, as I have said, have multiple degrees and are extremely intelligent. Margarita was a school teacher for some 50 years. And she's never quit learning. We talk about what's the latest book she has read or what interesting article she wants to share with me. As if her commitment to learning wasn't impressive enough, she taught herself piano as well. Sometimes I listen when she practices and her talent is amazing! She told me she also really wants to start up the violin, she loves how it sounds. One awe-inspiring lady. Continue reading . . .

Congregational Renewal Grants are Available
Did you know the ELCA has money to help your congregation in the renewal process? Four really significant grants are available now.

If you have (or know of someone who has) a stump grinder and could lend a hand, they would be extremely grateful. Please call 715-456-8916 or email pastor@livingwater-cameron.org Mobile Mexican Consulate Visit Immanuel, Eau Claire, is hosting a Mobile Mexican Consulate visit Saturday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Staff from the Mexican Consulate in St. Paul will provide the opportunity for Mexican citizens to process passport and consular identification and receive health, education, and legal information. A fuller explanation in Spanish is available here. If members of your congregation or neighbors are Mexican citizens, please see that they get this information. If a Mexican grocery store or restaurant is nearby, it would be great if you could drop off a copy of the flier and take the opportunity to get to know your neighbors. Note: The St. Paul Consulate can only service Mexican citizens in the northern half of Wisconsin (basically Eau Claire county and counties north).
