This week in the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin-ELCA

Week of October 20, 2013

We are a church that believes God is calling us into the world -- together.

We don't have to do it alone, and we don't have to do everything. Each of us has a unique story, and we are part of a larger story that makes up the ELCA. We work through our congregations, synods and partners, and the churchwide organization. Together, we achieve things on a scale and scope that we could never do otherwise.

We Walk Together

The synod staff offers prayers of thanksgiving with Bishop Hoyme and his family as they welcome grandson Devon. We also pray for youth in our nation who have struggled with acts of violence in their schools, communities, and homes.

God's work. Our hands.

Jo Giese (wife of Pastor Bob Giese), left, and Pastor Karen Zutz Rendall, right, rode on First Lutheran's prize-winning Quilts for Mission float in Ogema's Christmas Tree Festival parade recently.
It's a great example of "God's work. Our hands."

Welcome Pastor Ashley Nicolls!
A large group of pastors from our synod welcomed the Rev. Ashley Nicolls (center front) when she was installed as the pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church in Superior October 10.

Global Relationships

We mourn with our sisters and brothers in Malawi as we learn of the death of Mr. Andrew Majuni, the Choir Director of Cathedral Choir of ELCM. He died on the night of October 18.

Experience God By Going to His People!

Do you feel the Holy Spirit is moving you to step outside your comfort zone? To experience God in a whole new way?  The Central Lutheran Church (Chippewa Falls) and the NW Synod of Wisconsin Eye Mission Team is looking for volunteers to travel with them to Malawi, Africa next April.  Specially needed are optometrists and/or ophthalmologists, an optician, and several general team members.  We will be leaving the last week of April for approximately 3 weeks. For more information and/or an application form please contact Lavane Hessler, Eye Team Mission Coordinator at 715/579-1454 or email her at dhessler@sbcglobal.net.  Please put Malawi 2014 in subject line.
