PTF Sponsors Coins For Cupid to
Benefit Ronald McDonald House
Every February CDS-PTF sponsors the annual "Coins for Cupid" to help raise money for a worthy cause. This year all of the proceeds we raise with our "Coins for Cupid" will go directly to the Ronald McDonald House. Ronald McDonald House®, a program of Ronald McDonald House® Charities of Memphis is a "home-away-from-home" for families who are in Memphis while their child is receiving treatment for cancer or another catastrophic illness at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. All families stay completely free of charge. Just like in the past, students will have the opportunity to vote for their choice of who they would like to see as our CDS Cupid. Votes are made by simply dropping coins or dollar bills in the jar of their choice. Each cent counts as one vote, so a quarter equals 25 votes. Voting will continue until February 13. This year's Cupid candidates are basketball coach, Jay Foster, 8th grade teacher, Lisa Hughes, fourth grade teacher Ginger Bowles and PE teacher, Jenny Asbury. The winning Cupid will be revealed on February 14 (in a Cupid outfit, of course) at an assembly before the Valentine's parties. So, start collecting your spare change for a worthy cause!

Agua Viva School Update
CDS Develops Relationship with Guatemalan School
 | | Children from Agua Viva School proudly displaying their artwork. |
This school year, CDS has begun to develop a special relationship with Agua Viva Children's Home and School in Guatemala. If you remember, Principal Taquira visited CDS in December and received the books our students donated at the PTF Sugar & Spice event. Please continue to pray for ways CDS and Agua Viva can work together to share Christ with our students. Below is an email from a missionary to the school, Jennifer Spatara:
"January 2013 is over already! Wow that was fast! Soon we will be in spring break with the first of our visitors coming! We are excited and ready! This month's newsletter has some great articles! One of the most interesting is an article from a Memphis, TN private school director, John Spice, who hosted a visit from Agua Viva's School director, Joel Taquira. Learn about the ideas they discussed and pray about how you might get involved in Agua Viva's School."
It all started last summer when a group of American educators from Central Church and the Central Day School in Memphis, TN visited Agua Viva Children's Home and met with Professor Joel Taquira to encourage him and to share a vision for a possible teacher exchange between schools. Little did anyone realize at the time that this would eventually lead to Professor Joel coming to Memphis in December. The basic precept behind this vision is that sharing ideas among teachers is one of the best ways to expand a teacher's abilities, thereby maximizing opportunities for student growth. If this is true for teachers within a building, or across a district, how much more so for teachers from around the world! A planning committee was established, and an itinerary for Professor Joel's visit was designed that included classroom visits, observation of various "best teaching practices," and relationship building/partnership formulation. During this exciting and inspiring time, we began to sense God's leading for the future that would include "virtual classroom" visits (e.g. Skype) as well as teacher and student exchanges. As we concluded our visit together, we were reminded of Ephesians 3:20-21 as illustrative of God's hand at work in the lives of His children in Guatemala and around the world: "Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." Please consider how you might support the educational efforts of the Agua Viva School. Your investment will surely produce eternal rewards in the lives of God's children.
